Quiet, exotic gem
I have a preference for quiet fragrances (when I wear them myself). And for fresh and handcrafted. That's why I like this one.

I also have a heart for outsiders and this one is certainly one. His relatively low level of fame is probably not related to the independent fragrance, because in principle he has the character of a classic men's cologna with a lot of citrus, a slightly spicy soapiness, and woodiness in the background. In principle, because this is a Japanese edition, which has a slightly exotic effect due to the Yuzu fruit and has Japanese restraint. Sillage is not present and on my skin it is only audibly perceptible for about an hour. At the latest after three hours you have to replenish your batteries. That's a bit tragic and will certainly limit the potential buyer group.

It begins with a combination of very bitter, herbaceous lemon verbena, the translucent, slightly exotic citrus note of the yuzu and a restrained use of basil, which contributes a light spiciness that, in combination with the tart citrus, develops a perceptible soapiness and lends the fragrance a discreetly classic masculine orientation. The exotic citric quickly becomes rounder and more fruity (fruity notes in Fragrantica are clearly indicated) and additionally somewhat sweetened by the fig. The sweet mastic resin (indicated on basenotes) may also contribute to this. This makes it appear a nuance denser and you can get the impression of coconut. Overall, however, it remains light and permeable. The woods indicated in the base - actually only the soft sandalwood - appear hyperdecent, so that the citric-fruity main impression is held through completely. The yuzu fruit always sets the tone before the fruit notes. On Fragrantica there are some general spices listed for the base, but from my point of view they are not perceptible.

All in all, I would describe the character as exotic citrus-fruity with a slightly soapy touch, which gives a casual impression, but with a nonchalant elegance similar to that of an "Eau Sauvage". However, the Dior is brighter and more lively, "Yuzu Man" rather the grey mouse. Both have in common that they seem timeless. In my eyes, the wild water tends slightly towards the retro, while the caron neither has this tendency nor is modernly oriented.

In comparison to a current Yuzu fragrance, the "Note de Yuzu", "Yuzu Man" also seems quite dull. It bears much more resemblance to the probably best-known Yuzu fragrance, "L'Eau d'Issey pour Homme". He shares the top note with this one. After that the caron is much more sweet and fruity and has this slightly soapy touch, while the Issey Miyake remains harsher and fresher in the course and comes across a bit more synthetic, while the "Yuzu Man" is very natural. They are by no means twin fragrances as indicated here.

On the Caron I like the unagitated composition next to its restraint and naturalness. Caron's house perfumer Richard Fraysse allegedly worked on it for several years. The fragrance adapts effortlessly to the skin and I don't feel like I'm perfumed
For me a really beautiful (summer) fragrance for unfortunately only very short self-enjoyment without any showmanship and in the truest sense of the word "balanced" (L'Équilibre, see below).

Safe choice
The yuzu note is crafted differently in this scent: not so high / evident as in L'Eau d'Issey.

Here is the yuzu more balanced. After opening arise fruity notes, remaining until the end.

Perfume well behaved, ideal for day-to-day.

Projection low and reasonable duration.

Yuzuman
You are a little startled when you meet him for the first time. There he is in his white costume, with discreet silver-grey appliqués, actually standing completely inconspicuously in front of a white wall. Rather quiet, but always with a mysterious smile. So very different from his colleagues Superman and Spiderman with their bright colors, and again very different from the gloomy Batman. But make no mistake. It makes you wince: Sour! Tart! I've heard that Yuzuman brings the strongest opponents to their knees with a lemon (sorry, Yuzu!) alone. Some say he goes as fast as he comes, but that's not entirely true. It doesn't talk much, but accompanies you gently throughout the day with its fresh woodiness. Incidentally, regardless of whether you are a man or not, Yuzuman accompanies everyone who likes it tart, citrusy and minimalist.
I often read comparisons here with L'Eau d'Issey pour Homme Eau de Toilette. Admittedly, it's been a while since I last smelled it, so don't take my word for it, but I remember it very differently: Sure, it also has yuzu at the beginning, but then it also has a good dash of that typical 90s aquatic. This one reminds me more of the equally minimalist Bois d'Orange, only the mild orange has been replaced by a slightly stronger, more acidic yuzu.

Caron's fresh organic naturalism?
Overall, it's a classic style. If there was a perfume culture in East Asia in the late 19th or early 20th century, something like this would have been created. It's the classic style that's very familiar to me but never really existed, so it's interesting in that respect.

The opening of it is similar to L'Eau D'Issey Pour Femme. It has similarities to L'Eau D'Issey Pour Homme also, but I think it goes differently on the skin. And just as lemon combined with basil in Creed Royal Water creates a clear light green touch, so does yuzu in it.

Somewhat behind this is Caron's DNA. I had a similar impression with Le 3eme Homme, especially in the drydown. The two are not actually the same genre at all and have very little similarity, but they share some parts nonetheless.

Yuzu Man is definitely a summer cologne, but I feel an image of a snowy quiet winter. This feeling is very still and static. Like the atmosphere in Yasunari Kawabata's novel 'Snow Country', it's a world that's completely emotionless beyond tranquility. Perhaps the presence of very light creamy sandalwood made such the image. And I like this feeling.

I would like to argue that Yuzu Man deserves a much better rating than the average rating here of 6.6. It may seem that this is behind Caron's other colognes. I think different. Yuzu Man is a work that reflects the organism trend of the 2000s and 2010s, and is a work that imitates nature as did other high-end perfumes of that era. It is certainly not practical, but it offers a similar quality and a feeling of satisfaction compared to Jo Malone's works of the same period.

The only complaint I have is performance of it. Yuzu Man's longevity and projection are a bit better than 4711. Or it can be said to be on the same level as Jo Malone's general works. I recommend spraying 5-6 times on clothes, instead of spraying on the skin. That way you can get a little better performance.

P.s. Sorry for my insufficient English sentences.

Fresh and creamy but simple...
Very nice summer fragrance, opening with a very realistic citrusy verbena, fig and yuzu note, which dries down to a woody musky base of sandalwood and cedar.
Quality-wise, it smells classier and somehow more vintage (I thought this was released back in the 19-hundred and something until I saw the release year on Parfumo) than the competing scents I've tried containing yuzu, for instance Issey Miyakes summer flankers. At the same time, it is quite subtle and discrete, but with such a great smell I would like to have a more powerful projection.

Bottom line: excellent summer scent, shame about the lack of projection and longevity.

When it came my way, it brightened my day, with its sweet shine. This is no ordinary yuzu, not l'Eau d'Issey kind, rather sugary and creamy!

A shy citrus fragrance, it does not develop itself fully. I would expect more.
