Dior Addict 2002
I had actually bought and tried the new 2012 version of this first because I couldn't find a bottle of the 2002 original version. It was love at first sniff. Then I was out one day and came across the original formulation! Score! This does smell very similar to the new formulation, but it's better. It's deeper, stronger and lasts longer than the new version. There is just a bit more going on with this one. With the new one, there have been notes in the scent that have been removed giving it a slightly watered down effect. I don't know why Dior would do this? Why change a classic fragrance? Maybe this was their attempt at trying to modernize it or an attempt to save some manufacturing costs? I have no idea. All I know is this perfume is a masterpiece! I am totally in love with it! My overall favourite perfume! It's a total knock out! You can't wear this and not be noticed. Very smooth and sexy! I'm a big fan of anything with a vanilla note in it and this fragrance does it better than any other. It's a vanilla lovers dream! If I could only wear one fragrance for the rest of my life, this would be it! If you can still find this discontinued version, don't hesitate to buy it. You'll be glad you did!

I have never tried the reformulated version. I'm lucky to have a nice amount of the original at my disposal. I made this my signature the first day I smelled it, I love it.

Sexy - not loud
I was lucky enough to get a decant of the original Dior "Addict" from a generous member, and what a delicious scent emanates from that little trophy. On the skin it is blooming right away with a message, "sexy I am" but make no mistake, things will take time. That is probably the vanilla note which keeps the heavier notes of jasmine and rose toned down. Add to this the longlasting wearability enhanced with sandalwood and tonka bean, and you have a winner.

No wonder that many flankers followed.

What's under the cloak?
There is a note in Addict that I cannot place but that keeps me coming back for more all the time: the more I wear it, the more I want it, it's like catnip, lol.
I have never encountered any other fragrance that could do this.
(Sure enough, it is absent from the reformulated version, I guess the IFRA couldn't let us have too much fun)

Addict is an unctuous, opaque scent, think of it as a luxurious damask cloak. A dark, smoky vanilla with floral undertones and a huge wollop of musk, it needs to be applied very, VERY sparingly to let your skin come through and work its magic, otherwise you end up with a building slammed on your head and everyone in a 10 mile radius gassed stiff.
But if done right, Addict is a bewitching, narcotic brew that can reduce the most focused thinker into a glassy eyed babbling fool, its sillage is all velvety smooth and its longevity will let your presence be felt long after you have gone.

If there ever was a fragrance for which "less is more" applied, Addict is it.

The name has to have been the result of years of discussion on the topic of edginess in fashion.
Dior Addict starts as a dessert-like floriental of the contemporary school. Its initial tone is expansive but heavy, but it winds up an interestingly monochromatic oriental where vanilla and tonka cancel each other out and give a loud, beige tone.

I don’t understand Addict, but it’s a bit of a guilty pleasure that I spray on in department stores. Believe me, I ask myself each time, “Why on earth am I doing this?” Every bit of me tells me I should hate this. I guess I enjoy chasing that shouldn’t-but-do experience. Reminds me I can still be surprised and that the notion of good taste is often nothing compared to trashy fun.

Deep Cleavage Can Be Overkill...
Dior ADDICT occupies the same general olfactory neighborhood as HYPNOTIC POISON, another assertive oriental with big sillage and great longevity but which lacks the intricate layers found in many of the perfumes I have come truly to love. As happened with HYPNOTIC POISON, I recall having been vaguely attracted to ADDICT at one point--familiar to me through gwp samples or minis--but I never mustered up the initiative to make this a full-bottle relationship.

There is something about these potent elixirs that puts me off slightly--like a woman who wears thick fuchsia lipstick and calls attention to her ample breasts by donning a super-lowcut super-tight knit sweater when she would have been so much more alluring with bare lips and wearing a loosely hanging sheer silk blouse, even buttoned up. It's all just too much.

To my nose, the dominant floral is jasmine, but the drydown of ADDICT essentially ends in cinnamon oil-saturated sandalwood. The good news for those who like this fragrance is that it really does last forever--one bottle should suffice for this lifetime! Honestly, this could have been launched by Calvin Klein circa 1990.

Amazing
The Deodorant spray is NOT flattering to the fragrance Dior Addict. Unfortunately, it was the one I started with. I experienced it as very harsh and bitter and could not understand all the overwhelming reviews. Now that I have the EdP I know what everyone is talking about and I humbly bow my head. It is so creamy and wonderful. Very good lastingpower. Love it!

Raunchy and potent vanilla
Oh, this is delicious! It's a pity that I didn't find this fragrance sooner.

Like Hypnotic Poison, Dior Addict is a rather potent yet sexy vanilla blend. It's hard not to like such a richly unique and complex scent.

Dior Addict opens with a sultry and smokey vanilla. The blackberry and mandarin leaf notes only compliment the vanilla, they never overpower.

I find this fragrance to have an almost animalistic quality. The scent is sweet, but not sugary sweet, just pleasantly so. I love that this fragrance is dark and mysterious, it's something that would suit a woman in power perhaps even a femme fatal.

The lasting power is amazing and the sillage quite strong. I probably wouldn't wear this as a casual Spring/Summer scent because it just doesn't seem to fit into that category. By all means wear this as a night fragrance or even as a nice, unusual choice for the chilly weather.
