Why on earth?
Why on earth?

This question is certainly asked by many again and again when a beloved fragrance of ours is discontinued. This means that he will soon be quite difficult to get. And if, then sooner or later probably at horrendous prices, because that's how it usually is with long discontinued fragrances.

In my collection are currently two fragrances, which are probably soon no longer produced according to information here. On the one hand, my favorite musk fragrance Narciso Rodriguez For Him EdP, and on the other hand, the Davidoff Zino, which I consider a true dinosaur in the history of men's perfumes.

For now more than 30 years he is on the market and enjoys still - and rightly as I think - great popularity with many men. A true character fragrance, which is certainly not a so-called. 'Mainstreamer' is, but equipped with corners and edges. A fragrance that doesn't care what others think or think of him. He knows that he radiates personality and charisma and simply goes his way.

I like him so much that a backup bottle has already arrived. Because after I recently read the info regarding the discontinuation of production, I had to act. I just can not do without my Zino, this fantastic Dino.
[...]

For me it is a pretty complex and independent perfume, what you don't smell too often in the kind and also quality. MMn he has even niche character and you notice that quickly, as soon as you hold him times under the nose.

I find bspw. just the beginning could be especially many people a little too harsh and strict, because the opening with the strongly aromatic-spicy and balsamic muscat sage in combination with the tart rosewood is I think not everyone's cup of tea. I've also always read that some people compare the scent to the "bad breath of older men". Well, I counter that these scoffers for the fragrance are not yet so far I would say. (Basically, I find these associations with "older" people questionable anyway. But well, this is another topic).
[...]

That there are some floral notes in the Zino, I personally can not confirm so, because I do not perceive them in the fragrance. For me, the spicy-balsamic chords from the beginning are too dominant, as that I smell out any flowers in the further course. But this does not bother me in the slightest way, because I love him as he is.

This strongly aromatic beginning remains until the base, where the fragrance is then but with Patcholui earthy and woody. To this joins for my nose well perceptible sandalwood, which gives the fragrance a velvety-warm nuance and he gets a little oriental twist through this. Tonka bean and vanilla provide additionally for a pleasant and minimally powdery sweetness, which definitely brings out a certain cuddle factor.

The basic character is shaped so that it is perfect for the colder season. He is a warm, aromatic spice with woody-oriental undertone in the base.

With about 7-8 h durability on my skin
he also has an above-average endurance. And since I personally count to the notorious Vielsprühern, you can imagine that he sticks with elaborate use even longer.
[...]
Conclusion:
The reasons for the discontinuation of the production of certain fragrances are of many kinds, which I would not even like to pursue here, since it is anyway useless. Unfortunately, one must live with it. But if necessary, one has fortunately the possibility to get in time bunker flacons.

The Russian-Swiss entrepreneur Zino Davidoff was not only considered the king of cigars, but also distributed under his name or his company luxury acces-
soires, such as watches, writing instruments and even fragrances.

And among the fragrances is the Zino here - next to the Cool Water - probably as the best known. And for me personally the best.
[...]

Well then, I wish you all a reflective Christmas season! The year is coming to an end soon, thank goodness, and I hope that the coming year will bring this
C-madness completely and finally puts an end.

Take care of yourselves and above all, stay healthy!
Thanks for reading!

The Knight Rider of fragrances.
I would like and have to write a comment on one of the most beautiful fragrances my nose has ever smelled.

It starts with a freshness I have never seen before, directly after spraying. Yes, it takes getting used to. Aaaaber(!) To compare this prelude with, pardon, bad breath of an older man, as some people have described it here, is incomprehensible to me and in my opinion degrading But quite quickly the freshness of the kick-off, which lasts about 15-20 minutes, disappears. From then on the good *Zino* gradually picks up speed and it slowly gets warmer and the rose and lily of the valley appear. From this point on I like it especially well, because when the rose and lily of the valley appear in the background, the soft, leathery vanilla seems to call out in the distance.
After the rose-lily-of-the-valley combination slowly fades away, the vanilla, which was previously far away, comes quite close, but keeps a respectful distance Probably the patchouli & sandalwood seem to be responsible for this and thus keep the vanilla in check. Anything else would be "too much", it might push it too feminine and remind you too much of a gourmand fragrance. The amber and tonka bean make everything look cuddly, slightly creamy and warm. Slowly everything fades away and what remains is my nose, a soft leathery note and the beautiful, subtle vanilla

The durability is in my opinion very good and lasts for about 8 hours Even the next morning Madame Smellow smells it still very good on my skin.
The Sillage is also more than good with a good 3 sprayers.
As an EdT, *Zino* has absolutely nothing to hide from an EdP. From him some fragrances, also some from the very high price segment, can cut themselves a big slice.

I would also like to add from how many years one can wear it, as many people seem to be unsure about it. I'm 87 years old and I think I could have worn it in my mid-20s. Sure, you shouldn't wear it with baggy jeans, hoodie & skater shoes (I liked to wear it myself at 14). It just doesn't fit together. So young men in their 20s, test it and please, please don't judge too fast and don't let the opening fool or deter you.
This applies by the way to all classic fragrances from the 80s & also 70s.
As you can see in my headline, I call him the Knight Rider among fragrances.
Who does not know him and still can not imagine how *Zino* smells.
-Imagine the 30 year old David Hasselhoff as Michael Knight in *Knight Rider*. How he sits in his black K.I.T.T., with black jeans, with black leather jacket over a black shirt Sitting with the leather seats under his butt, he drives a lonely road in the North American steppe towards the sunset. That's *Zino* to me and that's how *Zino* smells to me Suitable music for this: Snap - Exterminate (End Time 12" Mix) https://youtu.be/SHnsFu_KUe4
Conclusion:
He is sensual, seductive, cuddly, sexy, yes simply special. This warming scent he radiates, I have really rarely smelled. The perfect scent for the freezing cold winter Btw. here was not the vintage version described.

Thanks for reading it LG Smellow

On a secret mission.
Carefully, he pushed the Z-51's warp control to 1982.
A gentle jolt was the result; little else seemed to
happen. He leaned back in the medium-comfort leather seat
and took a few peanuts from the
medium excitingly designed center console.
Almost three years now he had been doing this job. Still
still for the same money, still with no discernible
Career prospects. And without any prospect of a little
Fame. Not even a new Timeglider they gave him,
the sleek Z91c or at least the Z71 No, still that old cucumber.
And now this not-so-easy assignment.
"Get ZINO out," had been the terse order on the
self-destructing coaster had only read. "There is imminent
Danger to the scent peace!"
And he knew what that meant.
It wasn't the first time he'd done it, after all.
Which is why he also knew that this ZINO was not an easy
Case.
The landing went reasonably smoothly, only the exact
Time he could not read, because the on-board clock was already
been stuck for a long time, it only showed the season - autumn.
The landing point was well chosen - he hid the Z-51
behind a holler bush and switched on the camouflage optics.
Shortly after, he strolled casually down a small shopping street
dressed in a red crumpled coat
and fringed boots. Well, rather 70s, the outfitting
for time agents wasn't what it used to be either.
Fortunately, he had a by means of sources, which may not yet
a dossier that would help him find ZINO to help him find ZINO Faster than expected he found the discotheque "Marquis",
over which lay the small apartment - ZINO's secret
Lair in this angle of time.
Across the backyard to the stairwell, first floor, briefly ear
to the door, silently and quickly open the lock - routine.
And then inside. Two rooms. Quickly checked.
Out flew the bird.
He basically didn't expect it any other way.
But - its smell was still in the air. And that was worth a lot.
He had studied him long enough to recognize his components
quickly. There were clearly elements of the fruity
spicy opening, but which already betrayed a hint of dark
Rose, also of rosewood betrayed. And now, here in 82,
there was also a hint of a bitter note that had been
announced to him at headquarters as "camel to camel sweat-related"
had announced. He had thought it exaggerated and
thought it theatrically exaggerated even now. Yes, there was something tender
bitter, but still nothing really animal. On the contrary -
he even detected a barbershop vibe, not ostensibly,
but playing in the whole, marked by lavender and well
balanced bergamot. ZINO seemed even more unusual to him,
than he had expected - he played around confidently, gave himself
simultaneously as oriental and British in the sense of woody,
Vintage spicy gentleman's club atmosphere. Loose.
And worldly. Yes that was the word.
And its basic character transformed not unusual
Plants - patchouli, sandalwood, cedar, some vetiver -
into a unique, soft-spicy aura that from somewhere
received some sweetness. Where exactly - that remained guessing, but
this slightly sweet-powdery elegance was his real
Secret weapon. With terms like benzoin or tonka not so
easy to explain. As so often was here the whole more
than the sum of the individual parts.
Only, alas, none of this helped.
He had to find it somehow.

Quite perplexed, he stood on the street again.
Then someone tapped him on the shoulder from behind.
Cautiously, he turned around - and grinned.
He had suspected that they might send someone else after him
might send someone else after them, but not so fast.
And not them.
It was Barbie Q - who, though she hadn't long been a permanent time agent
worked for headquarters, but was considered a badass.
As a free agent, he had dealt with her before.
Black leather catsuit with wide schoolster pads,
white Fiorucci shoes and aerobic ankle warmers.
Looked good on her.
"Hi Stanley...good to see you."
"Hi Barbie..."
She smelled like Cuir de Russie, perfectly blended with some
Rostbratwurst.
"You didn't do a bad job on your last one," he said.
She gave him one of her famous pearly smiles.
"Thank you!"
For 2 months she had infiltrated the Ifra and gotten
out alive out alive. And with valuable information at that.
All at once she ran her nose up to his neck, waved
over it, first one side, then the other, back again -
it took a minute at most. Or maybe two.
Three at the most.
"Aramis 900..." she said, "taste you have."

"Can I see her papers?"
They hadn't even noticed him, the uniformed man who
who now stood brawnily in front of them. He began with Stanley.
"Name?"
"My name is Drauf. Stanley Drauf."
"How nice for you to be on it all the time..."
"Joker!"
Stanley would have loved to have given him a couple of doubles
right then and there ...right then and there. But the guy looked a bit burly. And of course.. ...he sensed right away that this wasn't a real cop Fake stitching on the pants, telltale laces. Lousy
Fake Oak Moss Smell. Fortunately, these Ifra agents
in some ways no smarter than crispbread.
And then it all happened very quickly.
In a flash, Barbie sprayed some Kouros in
the bull's face Face, and he slumped right over.
"There - he's got him in the car!" she shouted, and also rushed
away.
She was good, unfortunately.
In a few seconds they had freed ZINO and were
back at the Z-51, which was a broken shopping cart.. filled with empty paint cans.
The ride back was pleasant, as the Z-51 was rather cramped.
Barely back in the present, together they produced the
Scent Dossier for Headquarters:
"ZINO profile note normal zero/present time:
Bergamot notes underpinned by dark roses,
some lavender and sage freshen up, a bit quieter in the
Entry than in the return year, but not weak.
Soon first orientalism in its very own way.
Sandalwood and cedar softness.
With patch and vanilla everything melts into a tart-sweet,
almost buttery aura, timelessly cosy and unsubtle-cosy.
A distinctive character. More sexy than sedated.
ZINO lives!"

"Not bad..." said #2, as they
presented, "really not bad."
And now that was really the highest praise that
was to be had.
"Makes a good impression, the boy..." he added,
"not exactly modern, almost old-fashioned, but still good..."
"Few things are so old-fashioned as the desire,
to be modern," Stanley murmured. But only very quietly,
because he didn't want to jeopardize his planned luxury vacation.. he didn't want to jeopardize his planned luxury vacation with Barbie Q. He already knew exactly where it
he knew exactly where to go. He knew of an adventure pool in the Sauerland.
With artificial elder bushes. Decadent on the lounger
...get some fries... ...massage Barbie's neck with Vol de Nuit.. sipping fizzy drinks.. "Stanley...?"
Number Two abruptly snapped him out of his reverie.
"Er...yes...?"
"There's a very urgent case coming in just now! Be there tomorrow
Evening at the "Mole" Inn. Anything else on beer mat!",
number Two snapped him out of his reverie in a metallic voice.
"But I wanted..."
"Nothing but! It's about the western world as we
know it. I'm just saying mu... no, I'd rather not say anything,
who knows if even here the walls don't have ears..."
Barbie gently poked Stanley in the side.
"It's okay, Number Two, he'll be there!"

A shadow of himself, or of the execution of perfume classics
With the early 50's and a long-standing madness of fragrance, one can look back on a respectable olfactory window of time and memory. The days I ordered over the bay one of my absolute favorites of the late 80's, early 90's: Zino. The fragrance was unique at the time and certainly one of the best ever from Davidoff. Spicy- woody with a creamy, vanilla elegance that was unique. Durability and Sillage exorbitant, you had to dose it carefully, otherwise it became crowdunpleasant. I bathed in the scent at the time. Other favourites with corresponding consumption were Daniel Hechters Caractere and Jil Sander Man. The latter I bought recently for horror money unfortunately tilted, while you can still buy the Caractere in the old glory. The name is program.
But when I hung up the Zino, I was almost scared. My ancient olfactory memory reported: false bottle, fool. I looked it up, nope, it says Zino.
If you know the old smell, you notice immediately that the start is completely different. Formerly from zero to one hundred, instant volume, top dog. Now it looks almost aquatic, thin, shifted, the components are probably the same, fresh bergamot and I smell strongly lavender. But the old Zino feeling stays away. The flower bouquet doesn't really reach me either, the later wood vanilla base is conciliatory.
However, the irritation remains. Paradoxically, the whole thing is even better than many others on the market, but it makes it all the clearer to me what a giant Zino was at the time.
It is certainly howling to the moon when lamenting that hammer scents have been discontinued and you have to struggle for the remainder, degrading. But I personally can deal with it better than with a reformulated shadow of myself. The list of such candidates is long ( YSL la Nuit, Trussardi Uomo, Fahrenheit, Azzaro Homme etc. etc. .....
The underlying strategy is not accessible to me. Production costs? Not really, please!! It would be so easy to stay in the market with constant quality and when the life cycle has reached the end, to release a completely new fragrance with a new name. Would be a pity for the old, but at least consistent! But this irritating fledderei has fraudulent traits.

PS: before there are any questions about the rating, the old Zino would get a smooth 10.

He can do something
When I was still going to work, our team leader had put on a scent in the office one day that immediately got up my nose. It was so striking because I had never sniffed any perfume or evtl. aftershave fragrance on him before.

After some hesitation I asked him then (we had a very good working relationship), what he smelled so wonderful. He didn't know, tz men. But he promised to look and a few days later (after repeated inquiries on my part), he had the name out. ZINO, was the successful Wässerchen, from his daughters to Christmas get, according to his statement.

So off I went, researched, bought and applied. Honestly, this smells great on women too.

So spicy and yet warm, so woody and yet soft, the individual components I can honestly not smell out, but the bergamot and lavender are there, I notice. And when I read up on it, I learned that flowers are also present, although you can't smell them out, but the interplay of the individual notes results in this great fragrance, which can really do something. You are perfumed and yet not, because it smells neither like aftershave nor like a perfume, but has its own character, which somehow radiates an aura that makes you smile, that you can't resist, that catches you without you knowing exactly why. I'm really excited about it.

Somewhere I had read that there will soon no longer be available, so 2 bottles were re-bought, however, my husband has me the one already half emptied :-)

By the way, I had worn the fragrance a few weeks later in the office, in the hope my boss does not take it badly, but he has not noticed that and if, then he has said nothing.
However, my colleague said, I smell so good, that would be so familiar to her.
But I just sat there and smirked, didn't say anything. But, she could have asked, right.

You all still a nice, pleasant working day or just what you do otherwise. :-)

It's an old-school scent, luxury, mature, opulent, with a ruling rosewood, lots of aromatic lavender, and leaves nothing to the imagination.
