"Snow": an interesting attempt!
It will surprise no one that I, as the child of a severely walking disabled mother, am not a great friend of winter.
Winter meant for many years always: fear of slippery roads, falls and also sleepless nights when snowfall or even icy conditions were announced.
Even though my mother always saved part of her annual leave for such "emergencies", in order not to have to go on duty on really bad days: snow and winter have left deep scars on me.
In addition, here in the big city every onset of winter leads to chaos and even the winter service, which is responsible for our property, must first be reminded of his duties.
So then usually only one day after the snowfall, the work is taken up; the best is still standing next to it and reminded what needs to be done - similar to the agreed "garden maintenance".
Only late I have the winter a certain charm; solid hard-wearing boots purchased, which can also tolerate a scratch once, instead of the fancy leather for City and office suitable.
So today, dressed appropriately warm, for example, long walks through our Botanical Garden, with warm-up phases in the "cold" and "warm" greenhouses, are very welcome.
Like other perfumisti here, I approached "Snow" by Demeter Fragrance Library with great curiosity.
How, pray tell, would their snow probably smell?
My first impression was: here lies a lot of dust!
Can you really smell dust? One can and even the sneeze is not missing if necessary.
This dust lies on dry earth: earth around trees and shrubs, which is slightly solidified by a longer cold phase.
On this base, this dust-covered earth, snow falls all at once!
Snow in light, quiet flakes, which have already absorbed the slightly metallic taste of the anything but clean city air.
The dry, cold earth begins to live again through the light moisture of the snow: it vibrates slightly and exudes vibrant freshness!
Not in great vitalizing fragrances: no, it is the light freshness that would belong to a living environment; would we not cover everything with the consequences of civilization.
(No, it will not be a "green" statement - do not worry!)
"Snow" is certainly a successful attempt to capture a perceived "nothing".
Especially the smell of dust still clings to me lightly the other morning: where have I probably prowled at night?
Even with a test during the day, the dust remains for me the most convincing factor of this fragrance.
Because he surrounds me but a few hours; reminded that after the long-term construction work in my apartment certainly still one or the other dirt corner waiting to be thoroughly cleaned.
"Snow" is not a wearable fragrance - no, truly not!
But it is still a nice attempt to capture something that makes up our daily lives: without wanting to transfigure or embellish it.
So this snow has yet gained a certain respect success with me.
But that doesn't change the fact that I much prefer the summer waiting for me outside the windows. Although "Summer in the City" is also not always completely great and problem-free.
This begs the question: is there a fragrance attempt that captures the sun as sober as this snow?
