Interesting Facts
Frédéric Malle was born into the fragrance business and still lives and works in it today: born in 1962 as the grandson of Dior founder Serge Heftler, he became a perfumer and consultant working for many major houses. With the creation of his own brand Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle, he became a perfume producer. He himself describes his role as "publisher" and understands the company as a "publishing house" (French: éditions).

For the development of a fragrance, the greatest current perfumers are invited to create a masterpiece at Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle, which is then offered in a simple, uniform bottle and with noble purist marketing. A kind of auteur cinema of perfumery.

The only requirement on the part of Frédéric Malle: all flourishes, all accessories, everything superfluous must be omitted. The goal is absolutely consistent, uncompromising composition on the track of a desired impression or a central note. The best possible conditions are created for this: the perfumers have plenty of time, no pressure, and a virtually unlimited choice of ingredients. Frédéric Malle's goal is to give them the greatest possible freedom.

So far, the following famous noses have accepted this invitation: Pierre Bourdon, Jean-Claude Ellena, Edouard Flechier, Olivia Giacobetti, Dominique Ropion, Maurice Roucel, Edmond Roudnitska, Michel Roudnitska and Ralf Schwieger.

The fragrances are often considered radical in the sense of "coming from the root" or "going to the root" and enjoy great popularity among the connoisseur audience addressed by this concept.
