Atonement
I wont go on and on about how much i regret that LVMH group digged its sharp claws in the forbidden garden that was Guerlain. It happened. Pretty much as they did in Spain with Loewe, they take a brand that was worlwide celebrated by its quality and style, and they transform it into a more sellable product, even if that means loosing the identity and the standards of such brand. It is tragic, but this is the economic system we live in.
The Aquae Allegoria used to be , back in the time, a favourite of mine, each one a little tribute to one ingredient, or a whisical fusion of two, with a very natural, fresh, enchanting vibe. But after the LVMH Event, they were transformed into soul-less, synthetic, blurry generic scents, where sometimes you could hardly reconize any note featured.
Not nice.
Well, i am very happy to say that Lys Soleia is the first Aqua Allegoria I truly like in many years. Had Guerlain lifted up the marketing spell it was under? We will see...
It starts fresh and luminous; The green refreshing citrus gives pace to a very radiant greenhouse floral. Along the lily, I imagine they used the "solar note" they used in Alien too that is, more a scentless undulating wave of warmth. Lily is dominant in the fragance, and takes the spotlight for a while, just to graciously step back to the background allowing a green-yellow ylang ylang and a not fully ripe tuberose shine and complete the lily itself. Lily, Tuberose and Ylang are notes that sometimes will steal all the oxygen of the room, but in Lys Soleia are fresh and airy , delicately sweet, like flower nectar with not sugar added.
And so, the fragance passes from a yellow floral to a light tropical tuberose as this last one takes strength. Lily is still there. Vanilla´s warmth is not cloying or foody but very orchidée. I like Lys Soleia creamy and sensual stage, because it is not too obvious... A very uplifting and sunny floral i would not mind to own, probably for the next summer.
In terms of originality is nothing from another galaxy, ok, but my point is, it is really good news that Aqua Allegoria has a soul again: after the invasion, the garden of the bee has been purified. For the moment.
