Night Flight At Schalke

I had to wait four years for my season ticket. The waiting list was long. And then, finally. Happy and excited, I set off at about 12 o'clock. Time enough to take a look at everything and marvel at it. So many times I stood in front of the arena, without a chance to get in. Against the " old " Parkstadion, although very loved, the pure luxury.
When it rains no longer pull a garbage bag over your head. No more running track and lots of beer and food stalls. And- clean toilets. The arena is very high and from the arena ring of the upper tier a view over half the Ruhr area. Dreamlike beautiful.
Then purely in the block, first with all squires around make known. Someone smelled good here. Now and then what blew over there. Club song sing, then it went off. Inconspicuously I sniffed off times my neighbors, huh. Los went it.
33. Min. goal, 0:1 for Kaiserslautern. Shit. Then, 79 min Larsen GATE 1:1, relief and joy. All of us were in each other's arms, there it was again, huh. And then, 83 min TOR Kristajic 2:1 Schalke. We pressed, danced and cheered. Again a great breath came over to me. Behind me the Schalker Jung was it.
Final whistle. Won. When most were already gone, I sat still a bit there and looked over into the Nordkurve, where the fans still celebrated with the team.

14 days later, behind me it smelled again class. 1:1 against BMG. Schalke was fourth at the end of the season. The first was done.

Nightflight is a great fragrance. Too bad that he was discontinued. Slightly fresh and fruity, pineapple and lemon, great combo. Lavender and juniper, floral spicy.The base subtly woody and ambery, with the top note never completely disappears. I was impressed by this. Fragrance and carrier. A great stadium fragrance.

Back to the year 1996

It was 1996 and Pollita was in the final stages of her baccalaureate. After her A-levels she wanted to start her studies. She had only recently ended a strenuous relationship that had lasted over two years and was now at the tender age of 19 ready for a new phase in her life. That's when she met him. She had known him for a while, but it was only then that they got to know each other better. He was already 30 and the young chick was warned by everyone in her family and circle of acquaintances that he was too old and that this could not go well. She still has the words of her grandmother in her head: "If you're not married or have a boyfriend by the time you're 30, there's something wrong with them," she told her granddaughter over and over again. Spending time with him just meant fun, happiness, joy. No barriers like before. With him she discovered her joy in football and even today both still cheer on the same team with enthusiasm. Whether in the club, in the football stadium on the fairground - this time with him was characterized by unbelievable much joy and detachment. That's exactly why she fell in love with him. He worked as a DJ in a bar and played her favorite songs, lots of new wave and synth pop, which she loved so much. She was wearing JPG Classique. He Joop Nightflight. Together they often lay under the starry sky and waited together until the sun rose in the morning.

It didn't last more than a year. Family and friends should be right. But they still have contact today and get along very well. Pollita has been happily married for many years. He's still a bachelor. How clever grandma was back then :)

A little anecdote from my life...

I still associate this fragrance with him today and with this wonderful part of my life that I would never want to miss. Too bad he disappeared from the market like so many other beautiful fragrances. Fragrances magically bring all the images and emotions from the past back to life. Maybe that's why I love scents so much?

I don't understand why Nightflight was crushed

Admittedly, I don't understand why Coty had to pulverize Joop! nightflight while Jump!, Go! and whatever their names are still have a right to exist It may be that for some, after the reformulation, he was no longer the biting and room-filling panty-dropper that he was in the 1990s. Nevertheless, even the reformulated version had its raison d'être.

To this day there is no fragrance in my collection that I have been asked about as often as Nightflight. While many of the fragrances in my collection have received comments like "You smell good!", Nightflight is different. There was always direct interest in what a great fragrance it was and where you could buy it. Sorry guys, it doesn't exist anymore.

Had I known that it would be smashed, I would have easily stocked up on 5 to 10 bottles. So I only have two 125ml bottles and one (still from Lancaster) 75ml bottle left, which I guard like the apple of my eye (Are there Dupe alternatives?). And if you look at the high prices on Ebay and Co. for Joop! nightflight, you will see that it has the potential to become a missing classic like Davidoff Relax.

While his older pink brother still exists and enjoys advertising campaigns par excellence to this day, Joop! nightflight had to make ends meet and survive in the shadows until his appointment. I dare to bet that if Coty had raised Nightflight as well as Joop! Homme, many more men would have bought him and Nightflight would have survived.

Now there is simply no fragrance substitute for me that comes close to Joop! I don't want to have anything similar, but rather my blue flanks stamped with stars. A pity

My first

It was 1998. 18-year-old me had just returned from a two-week camping vacation in St-Cyprien, France, and I had never been so tanned in my life. I looked like a blond Spaniard. It was the first day after my return and I strolled with my then 14-year-old sister through the pedestrian zone of my southwestern German hometown.
Actually, my sister wanted to buy herself a perfume in the drugstore Müller and I was planning to rummage through the CD department, which was very well sorted at the time. Somehow I turned but then in the perfume department, although I was looking for nothing in particular.

When I then, after unsystematic sniffing had sprayed the vial Nightflight, I was as spellbound by the scent of freshness and summer, it somehow continued my Mediterranean vacation in my mind, although I was just in a non-air-conditioned drugstore market in the middle of a milletgroßenProvinzstadt.

In order to spend the remaining weeks of the summer vacations (at that time there were still 13 school years), with a feeling of vacation, freshness and a bit of coolness, I had to have this fragrance! And even more so in the evenings in the equally unair-conditioned, summer stuffy discos, long before the smoking ban, I would be the bestriechendste boy / man ... I imagined at least ;-)

That was 1998. Today, 21 years later, living for 12 years in a northern German city of millions and only on a few home visits to the "provincial town" per year, I recently discovered in a kind of cosmetic shoe box of my wife still an opened bottle Nightflight. It is, of course, no longer the original one from 1997, but spraying it in the air, you don't notice much difference from the scent of that time.... but every single impression I felt back then when I discovered the fragrance comes up again. True, it is a wet and cold winter. The last camping vacation is 19 years ago, smoky discos and the visits there also long belong to the past, but a sniff at the bottle and the time travel starts.

I have not sprayed me the fragrance for ages - I had even forgotten that I own him and I was delighted when I found him again. But I've really never sprayed it on since and I probably won't again. Too much he is interwoven with the old times, there he belongs and there he will always remain for me.

For me, he had his time and he was fantastic. But the (fragrance) life has progressed and made room for new discoveries and memories.

Another fragrance that is now finally part of the history of fragrance. He's landed. The operating time is over after 26 years and a number of routine maintenance procedures. The gates of the Flight Museum have opened. The lights on the night runway have finally lit up.

I've always skilfully ignored him as a non-fresh-smell fan. He was standing in the department store chains, I ignored him, ignored him. Yes, once I tested him and immediately forgot. Too inconspicuous despite the beautiful blue bottle. Especially because it was cheap and mass-produced. Also did not match my baggage scheme.

So now he is hired and my interest as a non-Fresh-Aquatiker but Vintage Jäger was aroused with a short delay. 433 users own it, so it does have its followers and popularity.

It is not fresh citric but aromatic flowery, fresh sweet. Lavender and pineapple with other flowers and tonka bean play the leading roles. Not a bad smell, but also not the Concorde, the high flyer among the fragrances.

I've built up a bunker supply.
Prices will certainly continue to rise in the foreseeable future.

I wish him not to be forgotten.
