Make it modern
I admit it: I have a weakness for the Jōvan fragrances. All of them drugstores with cheapest presentation and also hopelessly outdated. And yet in all her oddly old-fashioned way somehow also charming and with a high recognition value. So I was personally very happy about the announcement that after a long time there will be something new from Jōvan again.
High expectations lead to disappointment. That, too, could have been the title of my commentary. Cause no, that's not much of a shot, Coty. Rather, I have the impression the work order here was "Make it modern, no matter how".
The best thing to give the perfumers credit for: the typical Jōvan DNA with the musk that gave the name was retained. The rest I can only see as a smashing failure. A flowery fruitiness was flanged on top. I don't smell pineapple, rather a little apple, which faces a massive rose note. And plenty of vanilla/tonka sugar syrup. That doesn't sound really nice and that's how it smells. Fortunately, the shelf life is only average. With stronger performance this would probably be very, very difficult to bear. A bit like One Million and Musk for Men layered in sugar frenzy. And a traffic accident.
This all seems so terribly deliberately youthful and constructed that it's almost funny again. But I can't take this attempt seriously with the best will in the world. Maybe the fragrance could be better worn by the ladies. Because I don't think he's really manly.
So please dear Jōvan/Coty-Team: Back to the beginning. This must have been nothing. I hope this is really just a limited edition!
