And we thought that was forever...
This was one of my first. I tested it, bought it and wore it for a wonderful summer. And I remember thinking: I'll probably always have this one, for sure! The summer passed, and although not even half empty - if at all - the bottle, reminiscent of a half-melted ice cube - "How cool is that?" I thought at the time - increasingly moved to the back of the shelf. Others came, others went. Some I was attached to, others were just a fling, and some - none from those early years of fragrance history - have stayed. To this day, and I love that.

We make our first friends at nursery or primary school age, perhaps just because we live in the same street or both like Lego, but these first friends rarely last, even though we may think: BFF! Later, the first deep friendships come along and at some point relationships - and sooner or later, bitter disappointment and betrayal. And yet we keep thinking: this is forever! And then we cry ourselves to sleep again or have - intentionally or negligently - made someone else cry. And yet we think again: But now! Forever!"

Now, loss is of course far less sad with a perfume than with a person, but in order to like a fragrance so much that I want to own it, I want to believe at the moment of its purchase: if not forever, then for quite a long time! That's pretty stupid, because I've seen it fail many times. But just as there have been people - and this is nothing to be proud of - for whom 'until tomorrow morning' was enough to simply take them home, this is of course also the case with perfume. We all have, it's not bad. But the ones you believe in are more fun.

L'Eau par Kenzo pour Homme is nothing special as a fragrance. But it was for one summer. For me. Beyond its fruity-sweet irrelevance, it has something vulnerable that I still find in it today. I can smell that, others may not. For many, it is probably one of many summer freshness fragrances - aquatic, a little shower gel, a little disco - that was the 90s! Basically, there's nothing not to like about it and, as I now know, they're rarely good 'forever'. And yet it was a beautiful, blessed and long summer with yuzu, mint and the others. And that's not nothing.

Conclusion: basically a terribly forgettable and irrelevant fragrance. And yet not at all.

Do you know Kenzo?
I'm already doing my fragrance Christmas shopping because I don't want to get caught up in the hustle and bustle that starts in November.

I remember that three of my men from our Herrenkränzchen already have their birthday in November.

So I need more of the stuff dreams are made of.

The three aspirants are not unlike each other - they were all born under the sign of the scorpion.

Their scent preferences are also similar - reserved, clear and somewhat contemplative.

Of course I could give the same scent to all three of them, because it's hardly possible that they visit each other and show my presents before.

But you never know...

The scorpion in itself is very peculiar - and he also wants to possess something " peculiar ".

The husband is easy to give as he insists on the statement shower gel.

But the other two experts are more tricky.

So I found the cool, but not hypothermic Choo Ice for the police master and now pondered over my Berlin broker.

A saleswoman grew out of the ground and asked me: Do you know Kenzo ?
Of course I know the label.
Hesitantly I followed her.

Oops - I didn't know the L éau yet.

And it welcomes me fresh but cautiously.
The lemon revives and is unsour - and mildly a breath of pepper is added.
The mint cools the fragrance - and lotus provides clear transparency.
The cedar blows slightly smoky over it - and I have the association of a Zen garden.

My Berlin friend will like that, because he likes to make pictures into scents.
We can both do that for hours on end.

As a frequent traveller he will enjoy the trip to Asia.

Wonderful!
This is gorgeous! One of the best fresh/aquatic scents that i've ever had and smelled. And yes, smells like Sprite sometimes.

Great combination of lime, yuzu and mint.

It's clean, fresh and crisp. If this had more lasting power, it would me one of my top ten fragrances. Worth it.

Entertaining fragrance pleasure
Personally, I love the citrusy, aquatic tea fragrances, in which category l'eau can undoubtedly be categorized. Tangy-fresh lemongrass iced tea describes the immediate first appearance quite well. Unfortunately (as perfectly balanced as the interplay of nuances is), the liaison is very short-lived. Back when Kenzo was released, I thought it and Kenzo Power were unbeatable in this category in terms of fragrance. But even at that time, l'eau was for me personally more of a self-serving freshie that you could put on after sport or a sauna session without it being annoying. However, you didn't impress your fellow human beings with it, as it was simply imperceptible to anyone after 15 minutes.

The other day I was in a drugstore again and there it was, so after all these years of abstinence I couldn't resist and sprayed it on. Immediately, the stored associations with this fragrance came flooding back. Somehow, however, I also had the feeling that the fragrance faded even faster than before. But this could also be because I have aged a lot and my skin no longer stores the molecules identically :)

Overall, l'eau would no longer be an option for me today. There are too many much more durable and technically brilliant perfumes on the market that serve exactly this olfactory track. A Nishane Wulong Cha, for example, with significantly better longevity, or the minted by Nomenclature with a more beautiful resolution of the individual components. Strictly speaking, a Xerjoff 400 can also be placed in this category, but without the "tea-meditation-I'm-in-the-pure-with-me" experience.

But if you were looking for a perfume for everyday situations in life such as "oh shit, the letter carrier rang and wants me to sign for it, but I've just crawled out of bed, I stink and need a quick freshness suggestion", this is the perfect perfume for you. Afterwards, you can lie back in bed next to your wife completely relaxed. At least she definitely won't smell the short excursion through the stairwell to the front door and back.

Cool cool
Musky aquatic floral. Salty and reminds me of sweat or tears. Not entirely unpleasant thanks to the fresh soft floral notes with hint of sweetness. Have to say my bottle is the old one with "Par" on it so I'm not sure whether the current bottle without "Par" on the name is the same scent or not.......................

A nice scent of refreshing watery lemonade. It never gets too citric, yer stays this way for a while till the mint and musk accord dominate.

One of the most refreshing scents Ive experienced. Perfect for hot summer days, the next best thing to an ice cold lemon cocktail by a lake.
