Brilliant Attempt Of A Newcomer
Only 3 months old is the new brand Magnetic Scent from Amsterdam. Behind it is the young self made perfumer Spyros Drosopoulos who discovered his passion for perfume creation only a few years ago. Newcomers who have not passed the classic education of perfumery can surprise us – in the best case, we find a new way to look at things, an unpretentious approach and a refreshing lack of respect towards the common practise.
Fortunately, these attributes can be found in the fragrances of Spyros Drosopoulos. They are already available in a few niche perfume shops in Europe, i.e. at The Different Scent in Berlin where I found them. I was attracted by these fragrances because they were unusual in their own special way. If I should name a leitmotif or already a specific style - then these perfumes are about arranging the not so uncommon ingredients in a smart way to achieve a new and completely unique scent experience.
#2 presents heavy, dark and earthy gourmand notes, basically chocolate-like, but also with a creamy side, and resinous in the drydown. These are getting contrasted by a very tender and soft rose which may even have some fresh and green aspects. According to the website, the inspiration was spicy chai tea. The milky aspects that #2 has makes this comprehensible, however, any sharp spiciness is missing.
It is not much more. A short hint of something metallic or a fresh musky note that I got in the top notes seemed to be an illusion. At least, I cannot find anythig more. I am a bit perplexed about the perfect way that the two sides of this fragrance work with each other. It has an air of liveliness: Lighting up one's mood is said to be an effect of cocoa – but in my case I know that certain rose notes do this job.
I do not believe that there is a lot of complexness in #2. The potency of this fragrance lies in an absolute ideal composition: good luck, or already ingeniousness? If I understand the explanation of the missing name correctly, then the numbered fragrances were developed without an explicit concept – almost a finger exercise.
One will have to keep this one in mind.
