Reference Geranium
Jean Laporte's 1988 sweep brought into play a whole series of perfumes that became important blueprints and references in their genre. Route du Vétiver together with Goutal's Vétiver was certainly a starting point for many vetiver's released since 2000, Iris Bleu Gris I see in line with Iris Silver Mist or Chanel's 28 La Pausa Eau de Toilette, the coffee cola sandalwood combination of Santal Noble is still as new as it is classic. Jardin du Nil is, for me, a rose geranium reference that offers a visible starting point in view of newer geraniums like Miller Harris' or Malle's Geranium pour Monsieur and even more clearly, Rose et Cuir. The geranium fields in the Nile Delta were probably a narrative for the perfume, unfortunately there is not too much detailed information on Jean Laporte's work, and also who was ultimately at work at Maître Parfumeur et Gantier and in what capacity - the image does work, geraniums, lots of green stuff, jasmine, rose and brackish water - with a strange 'boozy' grappa note. Chanel's N°18 - in the fine Eau de Toilette version - is also still a perfume, which has a similar high-percentage Bonatik.
Unfortunately, the brand has been sold off a few years ago, the new owners have not only changed to the handy format of 120 ml and arranged that now a 'real' Swarovski stone sticks on the lid, but also looked at what so everything can still be improved. While the reformulation of the first 90 ml versions to the 100 ml versions a few years ago was already lamented, they now went into a kind of turbo mode, in which unfortunately the last charm of Jardin du Nil and Santal Noble was sacrificed
