Malbec is a classic. It pays for it, suffers for it, it is discredited by the misuse and abuse of consumers. It's an annoying perfume on a crowded bus, at a small wedding, or in a workroom without proper ventilation. Even in the gym, Brazilians insist on wearing it. Well, that ruins its reputation.
Malbec is a hit in the world. Just search for videos of non-Brazilians talking about it on YouTube and you'll be surprised how much they praise it. Do I agree? Obviously, otherwise I wouldn't have used it for so long. It's perfect for mild weather, especially at night. One of my first national perfumes, and although I have a strong crush on the flanker Absoluto, I recognize that there is a lot of the traditional in it and that its value is high.
Surprisingly, Malbec is the olfactory signature of some women I know, very feminine and settled ladies too. Friends, relatives, aunts. None of them very young, but all of them very determined and do not care about other people's opinions. Yeah, the perfume of a virile lumberjack male with a testosterone-soaked beard? I don't think so, not in 2024.
Malbec, launched in 2004, as the name suggests, refers to Malbec wine, bringing out the nuances of the grape and the alcohol content of the drink. The product contains wine alcohol aged in oak barrels, which makes it even more unique. The product has been so successful that it has long inspired other companies, gained dupes or "cheaper" inspirations, and it has a multitude of flankers.
But this text is about the smell, so let's get to it: booze, woods, spices, earthy and aromatic notes. It should have worked out right in all its aspects, due to the beautiful composition, the striking intensity and excellent performance.
It opens spicy, with balancing citrus fruits, a touch of bitter and warming violet leaf, as well as a hit of incensed wood. There's a good dose of amber, patchouli and sandalwood, leaving it at once sweet, soft, dark and closed. The cardamom note adds a distinctive touch and is reminiscent of other men's perfumes that use it as a contrast, without necessarily resembling any of them in the overall context.
One of the most interesting things about Malbec is its base, which, as well as being very woody, has a textured, smoky leather feel. This base ensures that the perfume lasts and has substance. It can be felt from afar, fills the space, lasts from one day to the next and hardly comes off the clothes it is sprayed on.
My honest opinion? It's a great perfume, you just have to know how to use it and moderate the dose, depending on the event you want to wear it. I definitely don't think it's a perfume for working out or going out in the summer sun.
