Love-hate, does that exist?
If so, then love-hate describes my relationship to this fragrance composition. The attempt of an explanation:
When the fragrance comes out of the bottle, I take a nuance that massively disturbs my individual scent perception. This is the exclusion criterion par excellence for a fragrance sample. Well, I have never tried it, "Oscar" was once a gift from my youngest daughter. As I mentioned in an earlier statement, geraniums seem to be the cause of the disturbance, but are missing above in the list of "ingredients".
Anyway, after a quarter of an hour, the sturgeon completely disappears and a very pleasant scent develops, just like in a farmer's garden in full bloom in the summer sunshine.
The last transformation, when it becomes really masculine, is dominated by harsher nuances. Wood, leather, spice remind (me) of the noble interior scent of a Range Rover Vogue? This with quite long perceptibility, paired with restrained silage. Stylish elegance. A few days ago "Oscar" was lying on the grab table. I did it again. My love-hate relationship lives on.

Toxic for Men
One dimensional and mostly linear; white lily with pollen-laden stigmas, Formica table top, and a vanilla and musk undertone.

Actually not bad, and OK as an outlier to a wardrobe but it could get tiresome if over used.

The amount of Lyral in this juice makes it problematic on the skin so it would most likely be better sprayed on cloth, occasionally.

For spiritual souls
Last night after I changed the bed sheets I looked for a bottle I haven't worn in a long time or have stopped weraing it completely to spray the sides of the pillow and have a good night sleep. And almost blindly I got Oscar for Men, the last bottle behind all others. As soon as the spray hit the sheets I was reminded of how gorgeous OfM is. It seems that I forgot all about it. The beautiful citrus and pepper opening made magnificent by the fur, so manly and yet so temple divine like, too. For me, Oscar for Men is about religion, temples, churches, Catholic churches, mass, rituals. The floral notes add a layer of delicate touch and is never feminine. The spices are warm and soft. But the best is yet to come. Incense and sandalwood complete the scene, and it is really holy. One feels like a high priest in an ancient ritual, with the offerings going up to the skies helped by the incense. Because of these images in my head it is difficult for me to wear Oscar for Men so often. I need to be in tune with it and the circunstance also. That's why it's been way, hidden. It does not belong to this material world. Oscar is a first class male scent and there aren't many of them anymore today. You may fint OfM sexy, but it's all cultural isseus.

Buy The Other Oscar...
Oscar for Men opens with an invigorating fresh blast of bergamot and pepper with hints of cumin spice detectable. As the fragrance moves to the early heart phase the cumin now asserts itself forcefully as it plays co-star to the continually dominant bergamot now coupled with waxy lily with the subtle support of aromatic lavender, mild clove spice, coniferous green fir and mowed grass-like violet leaf. The fragrance remains quite linear as it enters the late dry-down with the cumin, bergamot and pepper trio fading but still quite noticeable, joined by relatively faint slightly animalic musk to finish off the progression. Projection is average, as is longevity at 8-10 hours on skin.

Oscar for Men is definitely not what I was expecting when I recently bought it blind. I expected the bergamot and the pepper which are two of the main drivers of its linear progression from start to finish, but I didn't expect the large role the cumin and lily would play. The cumin is unfortunately of the "BO" variety on skin and the lily has an odd candle wax-like smell, both when melded to the rest of the composition just don't work. I think had the perfumer eliminated the cumin the composition would have somewhat impressed, but alas it was not to be. Adding to my surprise and dare I say disappointment is the lack of a number of prominent base notes I expected to smell from the published notes list... Notes like leather, sandalwood and vanilla are all either so miniscule that they do not merit a mention or are completely MIA on skin. The bottom line is that while Oscar for Men can be found at discounters nowadays for a relatively low street price of about $16 per 100ml bottle, this is one Oscar that I just cannot recommend, earning a very generous "average" rating of 2.5 stars out of 5. The more famous Oscar pour Lui from the house is a classic and highly recommended in its vintage form, but Oscar for Men reviewed here is just a dud.

I wish someone would announce when these fragrances are discontinued. Another hunt for vintage begins!
