Carnivorous Jasmine
Indolice from Providence Perfume is carnivorous, vampiric jasmine perfume infused with a generous dose of earthy elements and frankincense. A dark take on jasmine, something that I expected from Serg Lutens' Sarrasins, with no luck. The latter always felt innocent and inoffensive to me. This one, however, delivers that dark allure.
The opening is very punchy from the mushroom note, having an almost unami-like, meaty, organic quality to it. The jasmine follows shortly, in its entire glory. Heady, sweet, indolic, and delightfully narcotic. It is juxtaposed by the strong earthbound facets in this perfume but also complemented by the musky, sweet flavor of the spikenard, and the meaty quality of the mushroom. Therefore, it almost feels alive. Like it is made of flesh and breaths. There is a strange accord that sometimes makes me think of blood, maybe a suggestion of the perfume's color which is a deep dark red that you need to make sure doesn't reach your garments. There is a slight aromatic touch from basil at times providing yet another interesting facet to the whole picture. As it dries down on the skin, it becomes earthier, as oakmoss starts to join the mushroom and the nard. To the floral-earthy concoction, the base adjoins a beautiful frankincense accord, completing the mysterious aura around this composition.
It feels like a floral-chypre, more organic and earthy, with a nice smoky touch at the end. Dark, mysterious, alluring, like all the children of the night.
