Gala at the Grandpalais
When I opened the fragrance mail from Turandot with the Roja fragrance samples, I was very surprised that in addition to the so beloved by me "Arabs" also a fragrance was included specifically for the European and American market.
For once, no camel dung and no reaching into the spice boxes from Alibaba's cave of wonders!
What would I discover? Would I like it?
Gorgeous bouquets of flowers tied from scented gemstones I find here!
"Karenina" I boil right down to St. Petersburg; a love story always does well and Leo Tolstoy must have been of the same opinion with his novel "Anna Karenina".
The House of Roja also relies on this with its "Russian Collection".
So at the beginning you feel the icy cold; the streets along the Neva covered with a thick layer of snow, on which the ostentatious sleighs make a dull sound: the wooden pavement under the blanket of snow brings to mind. But the little bells ring brightly and confidently.
Roja's "Karenina" begins with Anna's entrance into the impressive palace, where one of the season's sumptuous balls is taking place.
Aldehydes shine like the numerous candles in the glittering crystal chandeliers, the freshness of bergamot pleasantly drowning out a certain mustiness that has taken root over time in the immense grand staircase: a very pleasant opening!
The white and gold ballroom is adorned with magnificent floral arrangements; what opulence of color and fragrance can be found here.
The exotic aromas of frangipani, jasmine and ylang-ylang accompany the ever-touching spiciness of cloves; an integral part of floral arrangements and here a beautiful focal point of the fragrance composition.
But at the same time innocently young and full of expectation. Not without reason symbolizes the carnation in the classical imagery floral language of the engagement and fiancées were then but still innocent and full of expectation!
An island of red-flowered geraniums, so specially fragrant, attracts attention: their vibrant reds and greens form an effective and lively contrast to the interior design in white and gold.
The ladies in their sumptuous gala dressing rooms carry small bouquets of flowers that do not interfere with dancing. In these daintily tied ladies' bouquets, adorned with ribbons, are violets and delicate Grasse roses, and orange blossoms often adorn the artfully pinned hair.
This girlish variety of flowers also contributes to the warm, feminine fragrance painting.
Whereas the noble gardenia is worn by gentlemen as a buttonhole flower on their tails.
Under the increasing warmth of thousands of candles and dancing people, an enchantingly romantic swirl of floral scent is created: this ballroom becomes a great blender of previous aromas.
Not only the candles, but also feelings flare up during the course of this evening. And so a warm, spicy atmosphere develops, underpinned by strong cloves (cleverly chosen to accompany the numerous cloves in the floral bouquet) and sensual waves of vanilla and musk; from now on, Eros and Aphrodite dance along!
A touch of cedar and green freshness, created from the eaux de colognes of the gentlemen present, draws its surprising scent trail.
"Tout St. Petersburg" dances into a new day and Roja's floral bouquet "Karenina" reaches its impressive climax with a final swirl of all the fragrances present!
"Karenina's" fragrance composition sounds formidable at first with its numerous impressive scent notes.
Of course! The Roja brand would lead one to expect nothing less.
And yet it is a delicate, very feminine, almost a little old-fashioned floral fragrance that surrounds its wearer radiantly yet surprisingly quietly.
A little "old fragrance nobility" has clearly prevailed here against the newcomers.
Sillage and durability are of course "Roja-like", anything else would be an insult: it is as always clotted and not blotted!
But you can also do it without oud and all the "fragrances of Arabia", as "Karenina" shows.
A noble lady has sent me Turandot; well knowing what joy she gives me with this fragrance; after all, she knows my preference for "Pomp and Circumstances".
Even "fish-bloods" like me get such elaborately composed fragrances to sound and glow!
"Karenina" will ask me to dance a few more times; there's a little left in the test flacon.
The metamorphosis of world literature to the fragrance experience is very successful here.
Conclusion:
I fall Roja fragrances more and more!
It doesn't matter!
