My father, my hero
As with many girls, my connection with my father was a very special one.
Sadly, he passed away a few years ago, but he never quite left for me and persists in many ways.
My father was a captain on a great voyage, who indeed still sailed all the seas. When he was home after a long time at sea, he was so truly home, on home leave for an extended period of time. This was always especially nice for my siblings and me because we had his undivided attention. He taught us to love the sea and to look beyond it to other countries and cultures. Being the youngest and arguably the wildest in the family, I always wanted to join dad on board and travel, while the rest of the family didn't have much interest in seafaring.
So even as a little girl, I was put on planes with a sign on my neck, looked after by nice stewardesses, and handed over at international airports to ordered drivers who then took me to the ship.
In a time without mobile phones, today unthinkable and a case for the youth welfare office .
But I remember clearly that I was never afraid. I had this basic trust that my father had organized everything and nothing would happen to me.
There he was always standing at the gangway, a tall, upright man , with his captain's shirt rolled up , a father's love and pride in his eyes.
I ran, into his arms, smelling the sea and 'Old Spice'.
The fruity orange freshness already gone, this warm spicy, almost oriental cinnamon vanilla amber scent always clung to him.
And only now, while writing these lines, my eyes fall on the pyramid and I see that 'Old Spice' contains tonka bean. Maybe that's where my preference for tonka scents comes from, but in any case the velvety of the fragrance.
A feeling of security and being accepted, sets with me immediately, when I smell even today, woody - spicy scents in combination with orange, like the scent of my father.
That is what fragrances (in the best case) do with us.

Refreshment on the high seas (clove-talcum),

i discovered this fragrance about 25 years ago in a car repair shop that didn't really deserve this name, in a box next to various penetrating oils, machine sprays, metal care products, rust removers, etc. I was simply interested in what kind of substance was in this milk bottle and I saw that this was not another company material but a cologne with a sailing ship on it. The name Old Spice was familiar to me, the scent was not, so I had to try it. No sooner said than done and I immediately found it pleasant and very tonic. An hour later then - we were in the mid-nineties, i.e. at the olfactory peak of freshies - I judged it to be essentially too sweet and also not suitable and outdated for me as a young man. It was too well-behaved, too cosy, literally too old-fashioned, although this fragrance immediately does something to you beyond these thoughts. It is this daring and at the same time very homely one. And that's what I noticed yesterday, after about 25 years, after I bought it for the price of a pot of coffee at the discount bakery for the first time and used it the second time in my life. This was followed by the obligatory wet shave which had become due and then OS AS. Ohh, this milky aldehyde orange, piement, clove elixir is really unique on the skin and in the nose. The feeling of freshness is excellent and outstanding and different from the usual citrus. One feels literally ready and armed for the day. The aroma is initially reminiscent of maritime, slightly exotic boldness and then slides into a Talcum bliss (could have been an advertising slogan of the 50s...). But it remains a bit too sweet at the end. Damn, if they could have made it a little bit harsher in the drydown, it would have been perfect for me now, matured or aged, really perfect.
He's been changed from my memory. Advantage: the clove aspect is in the head and heart note is clearly more perceptible, disadvantage: the base seems to me to have a little less spice, but now with slightly artificial Ambroxan.
Conclusion: The top note is the most beautiful I know ! I like the bottle with the small stopper very much !

Memories of old times or a great after shave
There are fragrances or after shave of a very special kind. Old Spice is one of them for me. But first things first. In the beginning you have a good load of spices. From fine to strong, everything available. The piquant spice is already strong, but also pleasant if you like strong düte. With the time the spicy goes a bit into the background. Freshness makes itself pleasantly noticeable. Not very strong, but pleasant. Fine leather sets in. Slightly smoky wood joins in and skilfully rounds off the very good overall impression. I perceive a very fine vanilla note in the background. My conclusion: an after shave that stands out from the crowd. It is strong, spicy and relatively complex. For an AS already quite high-quality. It's been on the market for ages, but certainly not old. The care properties are quite good. Durability ? Even if it is not my first priority for an AS, after max. 2 hours it is over. Enough for me absolutely.

The Best Classic Cologne
This classic pretty much sets the standard for all men's colognes. Let's face it-there's simply nothing like it. There's a reason that it's been around for 70 + years. It's just THAT good. Everyone seems to have special memories associated with it.

Fresh and barbershop clean, men of every age can pull this off. You'll hear a lot of people saying that it's an old man's scent, yet more and more younger men seem to be wearing it, enjoying it and getting a fair number of compliments with it.

If you can get the classic, glass bottle, don't pass up an opportunity to let it get by.

It will live forever !
The word "classic" has never had better application. Old Spice has been around almost forever, all MY lifetime, that's for sure, and was one of my great favourites in my youth. I think many men have started with Old Spice, and been inspired to move on to more exotic and expensive colognes and aftershaves.

Its spicy bold freshness hits you immediately as you splash it on... the floral scents come beaming through, and in the drydown you sense the cedarwood and vanilla.

This is a wonderful fragrance which compliments just about any man. Is there ANYONE who doesn't like Old Spice? Really, I doubt it. Some may try to put it down because it was such a wildly popular and low-priced cologne, but it is far more than that. A look at the ingredients will show you that this is a carefully-crafted scent with lots and lots of great smells. Enjoy it and love it!
