It has grown on me, amazingly!
It is a humbling experience to admit when one is wrong. I'm going to do just that...
I was wrong in my first review of this fragrance!
Late that night, after my shower, I was laying in bed and smelling something really good. I sniffed my hand where I had sprayed Island Life, and it was still there! After a shower, mind you!!! It smelled really good...hard to describe, but sweet-sour-tropical. I couldn't believe it had stuck around after my shower because I scrub myself vigorously with a puff. But enough about my hygiene habits...
That was Friday. Yesterday (Sunday) evening, I thought I'd head back to Gordman's and really spray myself down with the tester and see what happened. I sprayed up and down my arm a few times and left. For such a "simple" fragrance of so few notes, this one is really something! It's pretty! Don't get me wrong, it's not as complex as others, but it's not as linear as I first thought. I think what had me convinced it wasn't so good before was that it takes a long time to go from top to bottom. The top note here is the peach blossom, but it lingers all the way through the drydown. Next (and after about an hour or two!), the star anise rises and adds a somewhat woodsy note. It's not really spicy, it's just an added note of depth so one can't really say that it's a total floral. Then an hour or so after that, the vanilla comes out to play. Before, I stated that it smells like an orange sherbet. I didn't really get that the second time, so I'm wondering if I was the first person to spray that tester in a good long while. The world may never know.
All night long, this beautiful aroma was wafting around me--kinda sweet-sour like an apricot, with some structure from the star anise and then warmth from the vanilla. Truly a fantastic summer fragrance! And it was still there after my vigorous scrubby shower! So a big check mark on the longevity. Sillage seems within arm's distance or a little more.
So. I stand corrected. And my full-size bottle is now on order. :)
