White Veil ... an enigmatic Arabian perfume!
Being such a frequent traveler for work, I am always flipping through on board duty free magazines to see what is available. Every so often I am rewarded! Voile Blanc is a blind impulse buy that has turned out very favorably.
With a bit of research I discovered that Traveler Limited is a Dubai based company supplying various mid East Airways with on board duty free items. It seems that even they have jumped on the fragrance bandwagon and have had two fragrances of their own developed, this version as a masculine and Voile Noir as a feminine. Both are accompanied by beautiful full page advertisements and well crafted packaging. The bottle of Voile Blanc is especially nice ... it feels like carved alabaster!
Frankincense and Cedar are two favorite notes for me but I have seldom seen them used in the same fragrance. I have to report that they work very well together and far from being overly 'churchy', the combination of the incense here with soft, supple leather is remarkable. I'd say that this is more of a Suede note than full on Leather, because at no point does it exhibit the sourness that Leather sometimes does on my skin. This is all strung together by a beautifully herbal Thyme note, giving this fragrance a faintly dusty feel ... like hot winds blowing across a sun heated dune-scape.
The only reservation I initially had about this one was the blurb announcing that it contained Musk. I'm hyperosmic to overly chemical Musks and upon spraying this for the first time was gratified to realize that its deft handling in Voile Blanc suits me just fine. For a change, here is an Arabic fragrance without Oud ... one that celebrates the mystery and exotic sweetness of incense and Musk.
If I'm honest, the stunning model in the advertisement (pictured below) had quite a bit to do with me blind buying this fragrance! On the other hand, the $85/100ml asking price on it has turned out to be money well spent. Fabulous sillage and longevity garnered many compliments the four or five times I wore it in the last two weeks. I will definitely be buying a few back-up bottles ...
