If He Wood and 212 VIP Men had a lovechild, this is what it would smell like
At first sniff I am strongly reminded of Dsquared2's original He Wood so I take a look at the notes. I see woody notes and violet. Well, no surprise there. Seems to make sense. A few minutes later I am reminded of something else familiar. Miaw mentioned this in his review as well, it's the base of 212 VIP Men. This is sweeter somehow but I agree with Miaw's findings on this, it has a more mature feel than 212 VIP Men.

To be honest, I don't find it very unique or groundbreaking. But then again, how many fragrances really are? I do like the scent, it is pleasing and unobtrusive. I feel that it could be a bit stronger in projectionbut due to its softer sillage, this scent is perfectly suitable for romantic settings.

The similarities to the above mentioned fragrances are much less after 30 minutes.

Inexpensive but worth the money
Again an older review.

In several reviews on Animale I heard people say that if you don't like A*Men you could still like Animale, I actually find this to be true! It is sweet, but not overly sweet.

I found that the notes listed on Basenotes differ from the ones listed on Fragrantica. What I picked up in the top seems like a combination of honey and pineapple to me. Underneath I find some chocolate, though it isn't mentioned in the notes here in Fragrantica. Also some tabacco. And something that reminds me of amber, though I am not sure that is really in there. Could be the mixture of notes? It reminds me a bit of Ralph Lauren's Polo Explorer, which also has amber in it. Vanilla is lingering softly in the background.

But I do have to say, this is not as strong in sillage as I would have expected. The opening is very nice, sweet and lovely. But the drydown on this, that's where its power is to me. Very mature, classic, stylish scent. I already like it and this is just the first time I'm wearing it.

So, all in all, is it worth the money? To me, it most definitely is! For this money, I don't mind going a little crazy with the sprayer next time, to see what happens with sillage. And with Animale Animale my succesful blind buy streak continues, hehe!

/edit: There are a lot of different opinions on the subject of its similarity to A*Men Pure Havane and Pure Malt. To me, Animale Animale is somewhere in between Pure Havane and Pure Malt. Both of the Muglers share similarities to Animale Animale but still they are clearly three different fragrances. If you'd smell the three of them blind, it's easy to tell Pure Malt and Pure Havane are related to each other.

Keep in mind that Animale Animale was launched over 15 years before either of the Mugler flankers but hands down, it's not as warm as Pure Havane. Where Pure Malt is more fruity sweet, Pure Havane is warmer than the other two with its vanilla and cocoa heart.

/edit2: This reminds me of Thierry Muglers Angel a lot! Or Angel reminds me of this. The first time I smelled Angel, I immediately had Animale Animale in my head. At least during the opening.

/edit3: Jeffrey Dame said this about the similarities to Angel: "The original Angel for Women was taking the world by storm, and I set out as a brief to develop the new Animale Animale for Men as a take-off for men on the original Angel women with a several tweaks to push it more masculine. This was before AMen came out."

Fresh masculine
This is an older review, so I apologize that I have not gone into a lot of details here. And I am unable to do so since I don't own that bottle anymore.

When I received it, at first it somewhat reminded me of Havana. But upon application I soon learned that this is different. And I'm glad it is!

After a few minutes of wearing this, I find this to be a very masculine fragrance without being too heavy. I think this holds itself perfectly against modern day creations. With these notes, it even stands out nicely amongst its modern 'rivals'.

So now we're further along and the heart notes have revealed themselves fully. As much as I like the opening, it's too bad it doesn't stay linear from that point on. This one is not for me. I really wanted to like it but after trying it a couple of times, I give up. It's difficult to really point out what it is that I don't like, but I just don't.

Zanzibar meets Terre
To me this smelled like a mixture of Terre d'Hermès and Van Cleef & Arpels Zanzibar. Especially the drydown reminded me very much of Zanzibar.

I expected more from this fragrance. I like the regular Homme and Homme Intense. I didn't really like Homme L'Eau (at first) and this one is somewhere in between Homme and Homme L'Eau to me. I don't dislike it, but I had expected more from it.

I will give this a few more tries, but so far, I am not impressed. Perhaps this was hyped too much within the fragrance community?

Ellena's wet, earthy spicefield
The ginger and pepper really pop out to my nose, at least during the first 30 minutes. I also get a moist, wet, rainy vibe. This scent really gives me a great visual image of what Ellena had in mind when creating this. I've had the same experience with Un Jardin Sur Le Toit. Ellena is a wonderful man! It's almost as if I'm walking through the spicefields in India after a heavy rain.

This is very spicy but in a fresh way, though I don't find this an everyday scent at all. It's very earthy and wet. I find it to be quite sharp. It's strange how things change as I liked it the first time I tried it, but shortly after that it made me nauseous when I smelled it. I've heard people talk about a melon vibe which I understand, perhaps that's what turned me off from this.
