Not so generic at second glance
The first time I tried this on my skin, I guess my skin was too dry, which resulted in a soury and unpleasant smell. Right now I am giving it a second try, and it works a lot better. But, in all honesty I have to say that I am not at all impressed. Sure it is a nice fragrance and looking at the notes, it is different from most mainstream fragrances. When I smell this with my nose close to the skin, I am really unimpressed. It's not very unique and maybe even a bit generic.

Okay, so that was during the first 15 to 20 minutes. I sprayed some on the back of my hand from a sample given to me by a very friendly SA yesterday. From time to time, a very soft and creamy scent passes my nostrils. Could it be? Could this be the real Blue? The scent I found so hyped and actually dismissed at the first try thinking it was yet another generic fragrance? I put my hand closer to my nose and the closer it gets, the more clearly I pick it up. When brought too close, it again smells a bit dense but not interesting at all. But the sillage, it is wonderful. There is something very pleasing about this. It's not loud, but it projects pretty nicely. It has an enigmatic and characteristic smell. Not at all generic like I thought when I smelled the opening.

I used to find this fragrance overhyped and not special at all. Until somebody suggested that it works a lot better when applied on skin. And indeed it does.

Call me crazy, but I am picking up a very slight similarity to Guerlain Homme. Probably some accord they have in common. Not at all impossible I suppose, considering the several notes they have in common.

After two hours however, I am dissapointed at how soft this has become.. Too bad, because I really liked the scent about 30 minutes in. But it has changed.

Unisex².
This one really grew on me. I did not like it at first, found it a bit cheap or ordinary/trashy smelling. But I kept sampling it, again and again. I felt some similarities to Amouage Reflection Man, but only at a certain point. Reflection was softer, this felt heavier. But I grew into liking it. Perhaps because I did not like vanilla at first, but I'm starting to appreciate it more because it is not overly sweet and brings warmth. The amber adds a bit to the sweetness and the musk adds a certain softness.

This is a unisex scent, and I feel it will act differently on each sex' skin. I think this is more masculine than feminine. However, I do see (strong) women wearing this.

The hot desert wind
Wow! A thousand times wow! It is not often that I immediately am captivated by a fragrance, let alone a niche fragrance. I'm usually quite picky but when I received this bottle in a swap (thank you again Tomaz) just now and I took the bottle out of its very carefully packaged box, I got a very promising first whiff of what is inside this bottle.

So, I took off the cap and sprayed some on, carefully. Just a little. Carefully brought this to my nose, exhaled a bit and then softly inhaled..

WOW!

This has a note that I recognize from Santal Majuscule, only it's softer in Chergui. More round, and sweet. Most Lutens' I've smelled were very strong, usually too strong for my taste. But this, wow! I'm so very excited by this! When I picture a Moroccan desert wind, it makes it even more beautiful. I am totally captivated by it and I can't stop smelling my wrist.

So yes, I know this has a vast group of people loving it but I was a bit scared that besides sweet it would have a particular note in there that would put me off. However, this is not the case. It's balanced nicely and the ingredients are pure. The quality is better than many mainstream or designer scents, though I can't imagine a lot of people disliking it. I think it's safe to say this is one of the more approachable niche offerings out there?

I'm somewhat glad I did not get a bottle of Santal Majuscule, as I have been doubting about that one for a long time. I really liked that, but sometimes I felt like I didn't want to smell like that. But now, Chergui has come along. Bringing me that part of Santal Majuscule I really loved but in sucha sweet, round and refined way. I am a VERY happy man!

Patchouli, and some more patchouli. Oh, and there's cacao..
It opens very strong and the bitter cacao and patchouli are clearly present. However, after an hour or two, this scent reminds me somewhat of a church or castle. Perhaps this is the galbanum, I don't know. It smells of ancient places, very earthy and slightly musty perhaps.

It's very interesting but now I feel I cannot wear this fragrance because of this association. It seems strange for me to wear as it doesn't fit me as a person either. It is not a comfortable scent either, so beware. I tried my sample for the first time today, but I don't think I will ever use it again. This just is not for me.

I can see people wearing this and loving it, as it is very characteristic. But I would suggest sampling this, as it most certainly is not suitable for everybody. Although, this is a fragrance that is harder to find and wanted by a lot of people, so you probably would not have a hard time swapping it.

A few words
This smells like something from my childhood, making it very comforting to me.

It's a rather warm fragrance due to the violet and its slight powderyness, which goes really well with the leather. It's not a dark type of leather at all, so the name brown leather is chosen well. I detect a slight spicyness, but very vaguely and indistinct.

A fellow member sent me a decant of this in a swap and I like it. Though I am not sure if I'd buy a full bottle if I were presented the chance.

This is a unisex scent.
