Five Animalics Sitting in my Drawer

I have finished testing my little set of five perfume samples, perfumes noted for their tilt towards the animal. Really I am looking for something great to replace a couple of my favourite perfumes (Aromatics by Clinique and Magie Noir by Lancome) both of which are still in production but reformulated away from what works for me but none of this little set of five is what I am looking for.

They were all base-note heavy and although powerful perfumes, very long lasting, leaving powerful trails, they didn't work well as perfume for me primarily because I quickly could not smell them on myself although walking around the house I could smell the scents strongly everywhere I had been. The exception to this was Rubj voile d'Extrait which I found better behaved as subtle changes through the wear allowed me to catch delicious wafts of scent all day long with the fragrance remaining recognisably Rubj.

The five up for test were:

Embers eau de Parfum by Rouge Bunny Rouge
Rubj Voile d'Extrait by Vero Parfumo
Afrika Olifant Extrait by Nishane
L'ombre Fauve eau de Parfum by Parfumerie Generale
MAAI by

and here is the overall impression each gave to me.

Five animalics
sitting in my drawer
the first was a damp squib
then there were four.

Four animalics
Bought just for me
The second was orangey
Then there were three.

Three animalics
Bought instead of shoes
The third was shampoo
Then there were two.

Two animalics
Testing nearly done
The fourth was a base roar
Then there was one.

One animalic
Will this one be my chum?
The fifth was half a scent
Then there was none.

No animalics
Sitting in my drawer
What to do to pass the time?
I'd better buy some more.

I think I'll test some Jasmines.

Rubj Voile d'Extrait
I love neroli and on me Rubj is predominantly neroli/petigrain. Both the perfume and the voile d'extrait both work very well on my skin with medium projection, strong but not overwhelming scent, still recognisably Rubj after around 8 hours.

Dominant neroli, musky, lots of jasmine, soft wood, very sweet with a bitter orange sting, a touch orange honey (what else). I cannot detect any cumin and even after 8 hours my skin smells clean.

The opening has something about it that reminds me of a green rose; the heart is a little thick and heavy with something that reminds me of tuberose; the whole has a little something that is dry, earthy, and spicey.

L'Ombre Fauve

L'ombre Fauve opens with a musky slightly woody amber. Twenty minutes into the wear an almost toffee like sweetness with some sort of vanilla/benzoin accord joins in for a couple of hours.
Patchouli? Nope. Shampoo? Yep. Leather? Nada. Spice? Err. Nice smell, can be a little cloying, wears almost linear.

MAAI
I had really high hopes for this one but those hopes were quickly dashed as, on me, MAAI wears top to bottom as a whole load of different musks with barely a passing nod to some floral notes (that flutter away as soon as the perfume is dry on my skin) and with a mid section that has the barest hint of spice, a smear of resin, and an almost cake like orangey date; but mainly a mix of musks.

MAAI smells like the far dry down of a hefty perfume like Tabu (without so many of the sharp notes) so all in all performs like half a perfume for me.

MAAI has a far dry down that is very savoury, like Marmite (almost).
