When I was young(er) I had a period when I drank the infamous Southern Comfort rather frequently. Probably I had a little to much at some point, because now I haven´t tasted it for at least 20 years.

The opening of Dulcis in Fundo remind me of Southern Comfort, it´s sweet citruses, fluent yet bursting liquor note and at once it´s transporting me to a totally comforting mood. The vanilla chimes in (I don´t recall any vanilla in Southern Comfort) and eventually becomes the very dominant part of Dulcis in Fundo, but it´s a complex and shifting vanilla going from sweet, creamy and moist to dark, smoky and slightly bitter eventually.

Dulcis in Fundo is a must try if you´re at all interested in gourmand fragrances.It´s sweet, yet very grown up. Lasting power is excellent and all together it´s one of my fave gourmand perfumes. I wish i could drink it... oh, wait a minute, maybe I could? I guess I have to buy me a bottle of Southern Comfort and do a side by side comparison. :)

I love, love, love Borneo 1834. This is simply the best patchouli ever. And since I am a die hard patchouli fan I´ve tried a lot patchouli based fragrances. Borneo is something of a shapeshifter to me, it can be interprented both as an exotic and adventurous fragrances as well as an dark, melancholic and gothic mood kind of scent.

Borneo isn´t what I chose when I´m in happy go lucky kind of mood, but what I chose when I want to embrase the darkness within, feel it, understand it and occationally even recognise it and like it. Because within Borneo´s darkness there is something caressing, gentle and calming, maybe it´s like being in the eye of a storm?

What ever feelings Bornoe ewoke, it´s a heavy, full bodied patchouli, cocoa, woody, tobacco (I smell it, do you?) fragrances that will scare away patchouli sensitive peps across the globe. You have to really love patchouli to walk this convincing. I think I do, not every day, but today. It makes my darkness sing and shine...

When I tried this for the first time, shortly after it had been released (as Havanna Vanille) I was a little dissapointed. Not that it didn´t smelled good, but I perceived it as so week and elusive and hardly noticeable (I had a dab on sample only)after the first half hour... but the parts I could smell, was really pretty, lingering milky, soft and not so sweet vanilla mixed with boozy rum and transcluent flowers. Lovely!

Hours after I put it on I had to take a walk with my dog and it was snowing, big white snow flakes fell from the dark winter sky and I stand in the snow and tried to catch snow flakes on my tounge and when I did I suddenly smelled a soft, whispery whiff of Havanna Vanille (aka Vanille Absolument). It was a magic perfume moment for me.

Now I´ve learn that most L'Artisan fragrances are best of sprayed, not dabbed. Also since I´ve got a FB of it, I do smell the tobacco, but it´s a lingering and very soft spoken tobacco, gentle and beutiful, but lends Vanille Absolument a nice, mystic touch.

As a vanilla I find it not sweet, rather on the cold side, still a gourmand though.

Yes, lipstick rose smells like a high end lipstick, but also like instant mood lifter, a clowns nose, the ruby red shoes you dream of, the red simple drawn heart you get from your five year old on valentines day and the feeling that anything goes... Wear it in the cold november rain and tell me it doesnt makes yoou at least a little happier, braver and even crazier... Your socks dont match, your hair is a mess, but you wear Lipstick Rose like a crazy red umbrella...

Roses so red they are fading to blue, amped up violets, creamy creamy creamy lushness and you are ready for some spansih flamenco in the middle of the street. Yeah! Not for everyday use though, overdose might causing Lipstick Rose to wear you instead of the other way around, only use when you are in the right mood. Forget about your hairbrush for a day baby!

Are you on the look for an unique and different vanilla? White Out might fit the bill. The opening is strong, piercing, cold and plastic. I don´t really think it smells like I remember correction fluid (white out), but kind of a romantic interpretation. And, most important, it smells good! This is much to strange to be your ordinary lack of imagination gourmand vanilla. It makes me think of snow, the technicolor fake one used in movies and television some decades ago.

Conslusion, plastic and synthetic, but in a gorgeous way. :)

But, that´s not all folks. After a while White Out becomes warmer, softer, darker, woodier and also powdery. This is so nice and intersting done from start to end. Luuuuv it. Over all i find the fragrances in Cerchi Nell'Acqua line up to be extremly well done and worth testing all of them! Don´t miss them and especially, don´t miss White Out.
