Aventus by Creed - Riding on The Wings of Greatness
How preferences can change, one never knows, months back I didn't know that my second foray into Creed would end up being my signature scent, that's how great this scent is.

Aventus by Creed was released in 2010 by the House of Creed. The nose behind this scent is none other than Olivier Creed and Erwin Creed, i.e. the 6th and 7th Generation of Creed respectively.

The concept behind this scent, as has been covered extensively by various sources was the the epic and grand life of Emperor Napoleon, triggered by the tragedy and success of war, the solemnity of peace and the romanticism of a bygone era. These themes of epic proportions are further asserted by the emblazoned horse and a rider, ( most obviously Emperor Napoleon ).

To conjure such themes in a bottle requires pure genius and sheer boldness, and needless to say the scent exceeds all adjectives and expectations.

Aventus, literally means 'from the wind', and this fragrance rides on the wings of greatness and on the shoulders of giants from the world of perfumery.

Bottle : 8 / 10 : The most impressive thing about the bottle is the fact that it is strangely innovative and yet retains the nostalgic simplicity of previous Creed designs.

The part that truly steals the show is the emblazoned horse and the rider, which undoubtedly resonates the epic life lived by Emperor Napoleon who has been the sole inspiration behind this scent.

Surely the man is galloping on the winds of success, forever turning his back to the bygone era, towards the unknown. This also sums up the bold deviation of Creed from their usual fragrances and fresh flowery scents.

The official Creed site mentions that the perfume is designed for a "sophisticated blend of individuals who savor a life well lived" (I don't know about that ).

Scent: 9.5 /10: This is where the perfume truly soars to greater heights. It opens with a fresh burst of Pineapple and Apples. To be exact the natural ingredients include black currant from Corsica, bergamot from Italy, Blanc Apples from France and Louisiana birch. This is Creed's own fruit juice.

After the initial burst, things start to become almost Oud like smoky, with the Jasmine and especially Napoleonic Roses and a hint of Vanilla kicking in and settling as the middle note.

This phase comprises the heart of the the scent, and rightly so includes the Napoleonic Roses.

If this much epicness wasn't enough, the scent decides to go out with a bang of oak moss and musk.

The true beauty of the amalgamation of these notes lies in how mainstream the fragrance is, how it does not require any acquired taste, as in some other Creed fragrances.

This was enough for me to end up making this a signature scent of mine, until unless my nose gets adjusted to some other magic potion.

Longevity: 7.5/10: Even great scents like this one have a slight flip side, Aventus's flip side comes with a longevity issue, I usually spray 2-3 sprays and that gives me 4-5 hours, but if smelled closely. This one really sticks to your skin mixing in with it, till you can smell Creed's most favourite part, "Ambergris".

If only longevity was not such an issue this would have been the perfect scent in every sense of the word, well what can you say.

The fact that it is damn expensive can also be a major let down, but friends, buying Creed is a conscious decision, which once made will be worth the money spent, as in this case for me.

Overall, I think, this is the best Creed scent out there currently, I haven't smelled all of them but then I guess I might not need to.

There is a definite purpose to this fragrance, and that purpose is extremely ambitious. To pay a tribute to the grandiose career of Emperor Napoleon, is an extremely difficult task, and that appreciation is what really drives this scent forward, it is that push which makes Aventus truly ride on the winds of success and change the way we think about fragrances in general

Overall Rating : 8.4/10 - Love It !!!

The Beat of the Night - La Nuit de L'Homme by YSL
I would kickstart this review with a wholehearted thanks to the community of Parfumo and the readers of my first review for Original Santal by Creed - appreciate your positive feedback !!!

Now, La Nuit de L'Homme is a fragrance which I prefer using on a regular basis, for night occasions strictly.

This scent was created by YSL and launched in 2009 and is still in production.

La Nuit de L'Homme is French for " The Night of the Man "

The noses behind this particular scent are Anne Flipo, Pierre Wargnye and Dominique Ropyon. Mentioned below is my review for the perfume.

Bottle: 8 / 10 - YSL has been known to produce some of the most beautiful, innovative and enduring fashion statements when it comes to bottling. It is one of the most prominent features of there perfumes and interprets in a strong way of what is to be expected from a particular scent. La Nuit is no exception, enclosed in a small cylindrical bottle ( depending on the size ) which is flushed with a grey to black colour contour seamlessly delving from one into the next gives the experience of the dark and powerful allure of the night.

In my opinion It deserves a thumbs up for this projection.

Scent: 8 / 10 - At one point I was considering changing the title for this review as ' Cardamom Blast' ' Cardamom Fever' or ' Cardoholic' because that was my first impression of this juice.

However with the passage of time I have placed this fragrance in line with its proper use and come to realise that it is rightfully heady.

From the first spray there is an undoubted burst of Cardamom, which is the most prominent top note. This note shrouds the perfume in a cloud of mystery, but YSL plays it safe here rather than delving into uncharted territories.

The opening note after a good half an hour or so settles into a hint of Lavender and Lime ( the comfort zone of all perfumers ), but in this case the lavender strongly supports the cardamom blast giving it the spicy and sweet touch. The headiness begins to wear off a bit as the night goes and slowly move towards the intoxicating light of dawn, and this I think is well supported by the presence of Amber, which stays right till the very end, highlighting the lingering presence of the happenings of the previous night.

This mix of cardamom, lavender, lime and amber, in amateur hands would have been a complete disaster, but hats off to YSL and its perfumers.

Longevity: 8 / 10 - I use 3-4 sprays of this perfume and it goes along extremely well for 5-6 hours, I wouldn't recommend more than 3-4 sprays since the opening is pretty heavy, and that can be on most occasions be a deterrent. So go along with at least 3 mild sprays, and you are done for the night.

As far as the theme is concerned, this is meant for evening casual gatherings, and I would not personally recommend it for a day use at office or formal gatherings, since it would defeat the purpose.

This is more of a mysteriously sensual take for the evening and in that regard it just quite lives up to its name.

End - note:

If you ever thought of enshrouding yourself with a contrasting allure which is both magnetic, compelling and reserved, than this might be just right for you. The contradictory sweet and spicy mix of its ingredients such as cardamom and lavender / lime make it that way.

Put this on and get ready to be the pulsating Beat of the Night !!!

The Trail Of The Mystic Asia - Creed Original Santal
This is my first review of a perfume, hope all goes well. Will appreciate your feedback.

I was introduced to the niche side of perfumery via the Green Irish Tweed ( which i will also review later on ) and immediately became a devout Creed perfumes follower, Santal is my second foray into this newly found experience.

This fragrance was launched in 2005 by the House of Creed, and is still in circulation. 'Santal' is French for Sandalwood.

Touted as being an interpretation of the scent for Emperor Franz Josef of Austria-Hungary in the 19th century.

So here it goes......

a) Bottle : I would give this one a strong 9 on 10. Its the brilliant use of shades of red and slight yellow, that project a magnetic attraction. Frankly, it is what constantly allures me towards the bottle. The selection of this colour theme shows that Santal is by no means the clean, fresh, and green fragrance you have been looking for. The richly coloured and textured bottle invites you to the more sweet, tangy and spicy side of the mysticism of the sub-continent and is reminiscent of the 2 dominant notes in the perfume i.e. Cinnamon and Orange Tree.

Scent : Now about the juice, I would give it an 8 out of 10. For starters, kudos to Olivier Creed for such a bold divergence into unchartered territories.

This might just stand as a symbol of versatility in the House of Creed in its most accessible and mainstream form.

Now comes the first spray, and there is an instant burst of Orange Tree, Cinnamon and juniper berries at the start, which makes it have a very spiced up and wildly chaotic opening, after some time ( roughly 30 minutes or so ), we start getting a wisp of faint lavender, ginger and the still prevalent peppery aroma, however not a bit settled down.

Eventually, after a good 3-4 hours this scent settles into its base notes which are mild vanilla and as the name suggests a less over powering sandalwood and Creed- favourite ambergris.

Longevity: 8 out of 10. This would depend on the number of sprays and, the climate you live in.

I would have a good 3-4 sprays of this and it conveniently lasts for at least 5-6 hours, even though I live in a pretty hot climate.

Overall I would grade it 8.3 /10 ( a strong B ). This is a very good scent, to be used in the day in relatively cooler weather and at offices and even casual gatherings, but a definite NO for college hangouts.

End-note:
I have read a lot of reviews for Creed Santal, ranging between good to mediocre, but the critical point comes in its comparison to Mont Blanc's Individuel and Joop Homme, this happens owing to its similarity in its smell, and the precedence of their release to Santal, which have led many to believe that Santal is hugely inspired by the latter 2 perfumes, and at such a hefty price its better to rely on the aforementioned designer perfumes.

Well, people we are talking about a house that prides itself in producing perfumes from pure, non-synthetic extracts of flowers, woods, spices, citrus fruits and infusions of ambergris and vanilla, hence the claim of being expensive is self-justified. The similarity should end only with the kind of smell, there is just no other comparison.

In conclusion, Creed gives us one of the best and most original takes on Sandalwood fragrance. Buy it with an open mind and you might just find yourselves basking in the ancient spice routes of the mystical subcontinent.

Pls let me know how you feel about this review.....
