Seduction duties only
What a whopper of a tobacco/rose combo. Jumps on you and yells victory immediately in a soft woody/rosy/saffron sweet voice. This is no shybaby, but a tenacious tender lover straightaway. A massive centre of resins/muscs labdanum and talcum roses. Huge, yet gentle and soft.

A gigantic woody sweetie turkish delight of a fragrance.

However.... and there is one, but not a bad one.... It is suffocatingly dense & powdery. Nice for a winter snuggle but probably not for a fresh day. Amber resinous dry down to powder with a moment of a sour labdanum/myrrh combo in the middle. This fickle lover then just suddenly changes tune, ups and leaves with a wisp of resinous powder reminding you of having been there at all.

Seduction duties only.

Unrecognised beauty, then and now
This perfume is one of those utterly underrated masterpieces. I wore it then, and I wear it now, in that secret glow of smug satisfaction that comes with knowing of such things others don't seem to. I care not because this is one of the most stunning creations Faberge made. I have enough back up bottles, so you can fight over the rest left out there.

Deep, spicy, sensuous, and although flowery, it is not in a sweet girly way, more like a grand display. Understated and elegant. If you are the sort who loves the likes of Coco, vintage No.5, Sikkim or 24 Faubourg, then I would hazard a guess that this might be your cup of tea. It isn't old fashioned really although they don't make them like this anymore.

It's a huge, elegant, beautiful, unabashed, big girls floral garden. Not sweet, nor babyish, nor in your face like a Fracas. It has enough fruity roundness, leaves, woods and spices to keep it off the floral and into the interesting, supported by slightly bitter, dry herbal notes, with enough longevity to last the day. Made when ingredients were the real thing and it shows. If you trip over a bottle, then snap it up. The one in the picture above with a creamy white box.

Delicious citrus ginger with a superb base
This is how I like men to smell. Fresh, clean and aromatic. Without the awful trend of suffocating, dominant, amber chemicals. Slightly spicy and woodsy with many delicious neck snuggling nuances.

One of the nicest new releases for a while to my nose. There is a fresh grapefruit, masculine vibe with a delicious play on ginger and warm woods. Enriched by a seam of cocoa that warms without sweetening. There is enough cleanliness to feel like a newly bathed body in a really classy soap. A peppery tingly skin feel with rich patchouli, vetiver and cedar cleanliness.

If they made a soap of this then I would buy it tomorrow. I need to smell this again as it's still lingering in a spicy, woodsy way on the test strip six days later. Scrummy.

Classic and yet modern. A difficult mix that Davidoff has pulled off very well.

No doubting the gardenia
A whopper of a gardenia entrance with a touch of indolic honey. Big resin wafts playing around the sweetie garden. Reminding me of the largesse of Jungle Gardenia Touvach a little. It might be one for a future side by sider trial one day. Gardenia is not an easy flower to render as a perfume and normally I'm not particularly keen on Mr Fords creations. However here, I make an exception because without a real gardenia here to compare it with, This is pretty spot on to a memory of one. It has a slightly skanky side which is not easy to pull off well. One can even get a genuine feel for the pollen in the centre. As it progresses, the gardenia is morphing gently into an indolic and rather plastic nuanced jasmine. Possibly the labdanum pulling. The sweetness is never overwhelming but the perfume is certainly no shy angel. If you are a fan of floral whoppers like Joy, then wear this and light up a nice fag... this will be right up your smelly street. I'm pleasantly surprised by Mr Ford here. This type of perfume really isn't in the slightest way my cup of tea either.... but gardenias are extremely hard to do... and this certainly is a truly skanky one. I am quite shocked to find that I really quite like it.

The princess might dance or she might not
'Dance', said the fairy maids, let us amuse the princess. So they danced for her, carrying gifts of citrus fruits, and armfuls of orange blossoms. The softness of their tiny feet and the billowing orangeflower petals all enveloping, and surrounding the princesses ornate embroidered bed, with it's sumptuous hanging folds of embroidered gold brocade, almost patchouli-like infused fabrics and tassels.

The corpulent tuberose princess just lay there idly with a large smile. 'No', said she. 'I'm resting'.

One by one, these little maids did their best to amuse her. They danced and swirled around the huge soft floral tuberose princess. Each one taking their turn to whirl their own scent around her. The linalool type wafts of clean and light airy scents trailed in complete contrast around the heady, soft, enveloping floral, real tuberose absolute centre, like little rays of bright swirling light.

'Go away', she said. 'I'm eating some turkish delight'. Proof of such emerged, the slightly sweet light rose type mixed with cardamom. The scent trails wafting gently through the saffron impregnated curtains.

The maids each tugged playfully at her heavy languishing body until she at last relented. Her huge floral presence emerged from the bed and danced lazily for a small while, enveloping all their more gentle sparkling natures. But she was huge, and she got tired easily. 'That's enough' she snapped. 'I'm going back to bed to sleep now, so please leave me'.

The light floral maids disobeyed at first, and sat disconsolately around the bed, but after a while, each smiled. and left gently and quietly, one by one. The curtains stayed still, and the wood of the bed became more apparent. The still warm, sweet, floral air lingered until, all too soon, the evening night came and there wasn't another peep. No-one came back, so the sweet scent gently faded away rather fast.

A very pretty, soft floral with an indian influence of saffron robes and sweet, heavy type woody sandalwood, with a vetiver or patchouli style base. Just as it seems heavy, it is also strangely light. I'm not fond of tuberose but it has a light hand here and doesn't go towards wet vase water at all.

The strangest part of this scent is that although it seems very well blended, there is a place in the centre where all the notes seem separate as if they were all sitting next to each other instead of mixed with each other. Most curious an effect, but I would wear this again. Nice, classic soft floral start, if a little short lived.
