Fragrance tastes and how they change!

I am a firm believer that our tastes change with our understanding of and journey through the world of perfume!

When i started wearing perfume properly when i was 16 my tastes were dictated by what was popular and by what my novice nose perceived as a good scent, be it JOOP!, Hugo boss Man, L'eau de issey or at the time my favorite Faberge Wild Ginger!

Unknown to me though that these fragrance that i chose to wear were most of the time a synthetic mess and created to please all but anyone with an understanding of what constitutes a well blended scent. As my journey went on i discovered and tried many designer offerings, some good some bad and some that would later go on to be discontinued gems, Gucci pour Homme being one example. I was totally oblivious to the world of niche fragrance design and all it had to offer.

I was soon to discover though what delights niche perfumery could bring that designer scents simply couldn't offer, from the gorgeous Gourmandness of Tom Fords amazing Tobacco Vanille or the unrivaled fruitiness of by Kilian Liaisons Dangereuses. Fragrance like these allowed me to discover the difference between what was quality juice that is made from very good ingredients blended by master perfumers.

My progression now leaves me with fewer designer scents than ever before purely because i cant fulfill my olfactive needs with them, but there are a few exceptions for example Dior Homme and Homme Intense, Laliques Encre Noire, Scent Story 24 Gold and Guerlains L'instant Extreme. These could all easily hold there own against any niche fragrance out there such is they're quality and individuality!

I too feel that age plays an important role, or just as we mature, i feel that we stop using and feel less need for juvenile scents such as 1Million. This whole subject is a complete mine field and everyones opinion with differ, as will there experiences and expectations. As for me i will be continuing my niche journey and enjoying every minute.

Please feel free to comment with your thoughts, i'm sure i will enjoy reading them!
