Weekly Scent Discussion #25: It's been awhile
by Pandasmom | Parfumo Community
...Hey there, how have you been? How's the baby doing? Nice to see a familiar "face" on here. I've mostly been rediscovering fragrances that I haven't worn since last spring, like Coach edt because I love the long lasting lily of the valley in that one. As well as Fleur d'eau by Rochas because of its gorgeous mimosa note. Only recent discovery for me would be Golden Sand by Al Rehab- I've been looking for the perfect caramel frag for years & I finally found it! I have my eye on some decants online but haven't decided which ones to order just yet.How about you?

Eeau d'Orange Vert or Concentre d'Orange Vert
by Pandasmom | Perfumes & Brands
Hermes Orange Vert vs. Concentree
...Hi Fhaldara. Although I haven't smelled either of them recently, I recall the original to be super orangy (which according to spellcheck isn't a real word :-D ) - but I think you already figured that out from the name- it's also slightly soapy, as well as floral with a large dose of neroli/orange blossom. The Concentree is not really that concentrated to me. (though its noticeably stronger) However, it is also very nice & unique. VERY green. I didn't find the amber to be dominant, it's mainly about the citrus, herbs and cedar as far as I can recall. It's probably in there to make the fragrance less bitter and somewhat more "rounded". Although they are both marketed to men and women, I find the Concentree to be more traditionally masculine because it lacks the floral notes and is less fruity. Either one would be excellent for summer IMO.I hope that helps a little. ;-)Becca

Weekly Scent Discussion #22: What must you have by Dec 31?
by Pandasmom | Perfumes & Brands
...DorothyGrace:I had my eye on Diva at one time (before I decided I was not going to make any more blind purchases). Also, people said the vintage was so much better and the new a bit of a disaster.I used to browse Cheapsmells (now allbeauty) quite a bit and picked up some bargains (Parfum Sacre for one when they were selling off the current bun tops).I had a look and they also do a Limited Edition version of Diva. I wonder if it is the same as the eau de parfum but in a new bottle or if it has any differences.Hope you find a bottle in good condition. That's too funny. Our tastes seem to be fairly similar. I really think you'd love Diva, if you adore rose scents especially. It's really elegant and smooth. I smelled the new one last year and it was watered down and boring, no depth. I wouldn't say it was dreadful, but it's not Diva & it's definitely missing personality w/o the natural oakmoss amongst other things. I've never heard of a limited edition, that's interesting. I will check it out, thanks. I haven't experienced Parfum Sacre, but I know many consider it a masterpiece. I would love to smell it one day, along with many of the other Carons.

Weekly Scent Discussion #22: What must you have by Dec 31?
by Pandasmom | Perfumes & Brands
...Hi everybody! The scent I absolutely must have by Dec. 31st *drumroll* is: Diva by Ungaro (vintage)I smelled it years ago at a friend's house & I fell in love with it. However, I got distracted by life (and many others fragrances of course) and forgot about it for awhile. It's been on my wishlist for at least 5 years and it's time to finally scoop one up-before it's impossible to find. The only decision to make now is: should I get the edt or edp?

Weekly Scent Discussion #17: You Tube Reviewers
by Pandasmom | Perfumes & Brands
...I enjoy watching Katie Puckrik from time to time, but as Briarthorn mentioned I "cherry pick" her vids because some of them are too long-winded, redundant or I simply don't agree with her. lol However, she has made me chuckle a few times, so I have to give her some credit. I haven't watched OUCH yet, but I will now. There's a Youtuber named MOODY BOO REVIEWS/fubar 1963 that is very helpful and amusing. She seems to concentrate on niche and indies much of the time, but does review a fair share of mainstreams as well. I highly recommend her channel. She has many videos and seems to post new ones more frequently than some of the others fragrance reviewers on the Tube.

Weekly Scent Discussion #16: Classic Floral or Modern Sweet?
...I definitely lean more toward the Classic Floral (and Chypre) mainly during the warmer months. However, I do find myself wearing more sweet fruity or ambery stuff when its cold out, cuz I can't take the sweet stuff when it's hot out- although I do not own any true gourmands, only fruity orientals and nutty scents- wait... are the latter considered gourmand? All in all, I am an old-fashioned girl who has a great appreciation for things with a more refined aesthetic.

by Pandasmom | Parfumo Community
...Thanks for welcoming me back guys. I suppose it's "my turn", but if anyone is working on a clue/riddle or has something in mind already, please feel free to go ahead. I'm freed up tomorrow so perhaps I could conjure up a clue at some point during the day, but I'm in no big hurry. And yes, ladies, trust me, I have no objection to a man in a kilt, especially if that man is in fact a Scot. Imo it takes a real man to pull off wearing a skirt (especially in the cold brrr lol) :D

...I think it would be fantastic to read your experience for the pre-reformulation of Fleurs de Rocaille. I've been curious about it since I saw Scent of a Woman years ago but, alas never had access to it.

...Jean Paul Gaultier's Le Male Kilt Collector - I'm guessing (and hoping) there's not more than one decapitated dude wearing a skirt.Thought I'd crash your party. It looks like the regular Le Male just raided Barbie's boyfriend Ken's closet. How tacky can you get?!

Something with a sweet resinous raspberry
by Pandasmom | Perfume Recommendations
...Have you tried Givenchy Hot Couture Collection No 1? This is the higher quality & original version of Hot Couture edp. I don't know if you've tested that one, but it has a dominant, raspberry note that I would define as "syrupy" but still manages to be refined and sophisticated, it smells very well-blended to my nose.

...Hahaha luv your flair for the dramatic. You have the makings of a thespian my friend. You're not secretly a classically trained ac-tor, are you GothicHeart? lol :) You gave it away with the 1973 part. It would've taken me considerably longer w/o that detail. Being a music buff, it didn't take me too long to put the pieces together. 8)

...Well several of your riddles have eluded me, so it's only fair. Glad to have slightly stumped you, if only with a mere trifle.OH, I know what you're hinting at. They are references to:KISS him & KISS her, (by KISS Cosmetics) Are they not? I've actually tested them both- pretty good for the money if I recall.Have you sniffed them by any chance?

...BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!No, your guess is not "lame" at all. You are quite right. (and knowledgeable, but don't let it go to your head. lol :P ) Yes, the mandrake is associated with witchcraft, although somewhat unfairly so, since it was used as part of folk medicine by as you said Middle Eastern as well as Near Eastern people (ie:Israelites) millenia ago. The only thing you left out was that the "drake" part of mandrake (mandragore/mandragora(s)[Latin/Greek]) is a reference to the root's resemblance to a dragon to some ancients. Hence the beast part. And just like that, it's your turn again.

...True, Triffid. And it didn't help that I had never seen these before anywhere. However, I do enjoy a good challenge. Now I have to think of one for my fellow fragrance fanatics. Mine will never be so poetic, but it will be a puzzle nonetheless
