Orris butter

Iris butter, also known as orris butter, is a valuable essential oil extracted from the rhizomes of Iris pallida Lam. It is known for its complex manufacturing process, in which the roots are stored and fermented for several years before distillation can begin. The resulting oil has a firm, buttery consistency due to its high content of myristic acid, which gives it skin-conditioning properties. It was once highly appreciated in perfumery for its fragrance and fixing properties, but has since been replaced by synthetic fragrances. However, it is still appreciated by amateur and natural perfumers for its complexity.
