"The hunt for butterflies" is a name for this fragrance that I find rather inappropriate, just as inappropriate as the bottle itself. I would rather speak of a flight with the butterflies, the bottle should be multicolored, bright and convey cheerful movement.

This already indicates the direction in which this beautiful fragrance goes for me, even if I needed some time to learn how to fly with the butterflies, because they first flew to jasmine. As a jasmine critic, this immediately frightened me off during my first test years ago. Only the spontaneous perception of "jasmine" was enough to wash it off immediately.

Yeah, I'm terribly picky about jasmine. I used to like jasmine more than ever, but I didn't know much about it. In the course of my three years of perfumery, I've already gotten to know a number of jasmine notes, which I like after all. And I have noticed that jasmine and orange blossom together intensify my jasmine problem, while the simultaneous presence of tuberose can make jasmine palatable to me. Also YlangYlang sometimes succeeds in soothing the jasmine and taking its tip off so that I like it.
In La Chasse aux Papillons they are now all three in there, so that the jasmine and the orange blossom each have a softener. This will be one of the reasons why I can find jasmine beautiful here and perceive it more like honeysuckle, i.e. Jelängerjelieber, also a white-flowering herb, also often indolent, but strangely enough I find these characteristics of the honeysuckle beguiling, while I often find jasmine piercing-cutting annoying.

So, jasmine, tuberose, orange blossom and ylang ylang become yelang yelper for me. The butterflies have already visited five different flowers with their colourful lightness. If we add lemon blossom, which I feel very similar to orange blossom and cannot tell the difference here, then we already have six.
Now also lime blossom is listed in the pyramid. I love real lime blossom scent very much. I don't find it in La Chasse aux Papillons, but it may be that this note also contributes to my Jelängerjelieber-Melange.

That would be the end of it.

La Chasse aux Papillons consists only of this wonderful, luxuriant and yet in its way light flower combination, in which for me besides the lemon and lime blossom all are also individually perceptible, but in which overall and in the foreground "honeysuckle" is formed.

In the beginning I feel the intensity very strong, but it quickly subsides and already after 3-4 hours I wish myself more of the beguiling intensity back. Even if the scent is still discreetly perceptible for a few more hours and survives the next day on clothes, I would have preferred Jelängerjelieber even longer.

But half as bad: so I stick to my motto to spray earlier than to have to endure a never-ending, tantalizingly sticky musk or cashmeran base, which perhaps can not even be washed off.

Lazing on a sunny afternoon

My last visit to Vienna brought me to the wonderful world of "fragrance and culture". The nice thing about it is that not only individual fragrances are available, but great care is taken to offer the entire range as far as possible. Two fragrances by L'Artisan Parfumeur were on my list for testing: "La Chasse aux Papillons" and "Bucoliques de Provence". It was a hot summer day and both were perfect for a relaxing stroll through the city centre. With scones with strawberry jam and an iced tea in the enchanting inner courtyard of the Haas&Haas Teahouse (a tip for all visitors of Vienna!) I dedicated myself not only to the culinary but also to the olfactory pleasure of the two Artisans. "La Chasse aux Papillons" opens the hunt with a fragrant, delicate and peppery bergamot, which goes very well with the underlying flowers. Within minutes, the somewhat impetuous beginning leads directly to one of my favourite fragrance trees: the lime tree. In early summer I cycle through a large park every morning and evening in the city I live in, where two large avenues of linden blossoms fill the air with their scent. In the beginning, when the flowers open, it is a delicate, fresh, light green scent, which becomes heavier, sweeter and denser as the days go by - and which almost smells like a fully ripe or overripe banana to me as it fades.
The lime blossom in the lock elixir for butterflies on my wrist captures the phase of flowering I like the most. On a morning not too hot, just full blossom, but not yet too sweet. And that's how La Chasse aux Papillons stays for me. A lime blossom dream that blows around me and becomes more and more tender and playful. Almost imperceptibly he changes and lets other flowers come to the fore more. I have some floral scents that change a lot towards the end and end balsamic or resinous or woody. That's not the case here: La Chasse aux Papillons is a flowery fragrance through and through - and an extremely natural one at that. I love fragrant plants, but so far I don't have a single perfume that focuses on a single fragrance. Because although I can't pass by any lilac, rose, lavender or scent radio without sticking my nose into the flowers, I don't want to smell like a lilac or lavender bush all day long myself. But La Chasse aux Papillons conquered my heart so quickly with its delicate lightness that I bought it the next day. I hesitated briefly when I noticed that it was only available in 100 ml bottles - but only very briefly, because the natural softness of the fragrance has been bought at the price of a not-exceling shelf life. And so on days when I wear the scent I arm myself with a bottling and spray generously in between, humming quietly in front of me: in the summertime, in the summertime, lazing on a sunny afternoon...

Hunting for butterflies..
Yesterday I finally got my 3 samples of For the love of fragrance. La Chasse aux Papillons is a fragrance that I always wanted to test but because it is an EDT, I have held back until now. I don't own any EDTs at the moment because I prefer to wear fragrances that have a stronger H+S... The notes have made me but curious and finally it was so far and I was not disappointed..

I spray a paper handkerchief full of this fragrance and sat down and sniff the first time this for me unknown fragrance ... I see a meadow full of flowers ... Two little girls are running around laughing in their light long white summer dresses and are hunting for the many colorful butterflies flying around everywhere. It is summer and the sun is shining. The meadow is so full of flowers that you could think it is a sea of flowers. We are not in the present time, but 60-100 years ago. At that time the meadows were full of flowers and there were thousands of butterflies. The world was able to breathe and the countryside was full of meadows, flowers and trees... This is exactly what I have in mind when I close my eyes and breathe in this beautiful fragrance... No other fragrance has evoked so many beautiful images in my head as this great fragrance..

What can I say except that the fragrance is just gorgeous... Super feminine and very powdery. The fragrance starts with a hint of tangerine and a touch of pink pepper but in the foreground is 100% the floral notes, which are really super refined blended here. The jasmine is soft and pleasant and the tuberose is velvety, full and thankfully not green but sweet and smooth. Lime blossom and O blossom make the scent different and more interesting than many other floral scents that smell pretty linear of tuberose and jasmine.... The scent has a hint of pink pepper but so light that it can only be described as a delicate icing on the cake. The fragrance is velvety/floral with a twist and acts on me like a soft blanket of the most beautiful flowers you can imagine..

I know no other fragrance that smells similar. You have to like powdery tuberose/jasmine scents to appreciate this fragrance, because tuberose and jasmine are the main actors here but with so many terrific supporting actors that support this beautiful fragrance so great..

I must test the fragrance further to H+S Feststellen to be able to. Until now I can only share my "first Impression" here with you...

Luxurious Tuberose
A beautiful Tuberose Solifleur. It's a bit linear but that's okay because it's lovely. It never gets sharp and is very full and creamy. I don't really get anything else in it besides the tuberose, either because it's just that well blended or because that's all I can get out of it. Not sure which.

It's pretty short lived, about 4 hours and it wears close to the skin.

Big Floral Opening Fizzles Out Fast
L'Artisan Parfumeur LA CHASSE AUX PAPILLONS opens big with megaphonic, mostly white florals, with tuberose looming large. I initially thought that I detected violet as well, but it didn't persist and is also not listed as a note. The linden blossom has a minimal presence to my nose, so overall this hits me as a sweet tuberose perfume.

However, what starts as a pretty standard Big White Floral strangely fades in exponential proportion to the passing of time with the result that the composition has dwindled to nothing in less than two hours. I find the loud opening a bit contradictory to the fleeting nature of this fragrance, which, while a certainly pretty composition, does not hold a candle to FRACAS, an admittedly tough act to follow.

What we have here is essentially a Charybdis or Scylla situation: Those who prefer more subtle floral fragrances will be put off by the opening; those who like big bad florals will be disappointed by the half-time sillage and poor longevity of LA CHASSE AUX PAPILLONS.

"Chasing butterflies"is an appropriate name, since the fragrance flutters away before you can catch it.The lasting power is horrible.

Kind of expect to see this on the Ikea food shelves as a floral cordial.

Pretty, zesty tuberose.
