In peace lies strength!
In the meantime, I have already been registered here for a few months, during which my account balance has decreased, but my collection has increased to the same extent - but I have not yet come to active writing. I think it's time to change that and Rive Gauche is the fragrance that gives me the opportunity.

I'd like to say that I can't do much with the many individual notes that are present on Parfumo, because my nose may not work fine enough, but mainly because I perceive fragrances as something very subjective and my assessments of fragrances are not based on individual notes, but rather on associations and connections.

And it's exactly such associations that make me appreciate Rive Gauche, because I combine the scent, which here and on many other platforms is called the barbershop scent (and rightly so), with the ritual of the wet shave, which I don't do so often anymore thanks to Bart, but still enjoy a few times a year. Whip on warm shaving foam yourself and apply to the face, let it take effect, shave 2-3 times, then rinse with cold water and a caring aftershave - after these 10 minutes you will feel refreshed, cared for and relaxed. Rive Gauche manages to pack this emotion into a fragrance that has something of shaving foam, but above all gives me the feeling of relaxation and peace. But this peace of mind also goes hand in hand with a good measure of self-confidence: "I am a fragrance from past years, that may be, but I have my right to exist - first find something younger that goes in this direction" - that is what this fragrance conveys to me, and I have found nothing better so far, until then I enjoy this successful fragrance, which radiates self-confident peace and serenity from beginning to end and does not change much for me in the course of time
In addition, I find Rive Gauche quite universally applicable - leisure, office, both go. All seasons go, even the summer, because the scent doesn't convey any sweetness or heaviness for me. I'd probably put on something else to go out, but that's okay too. Shelf life is very good for me, the scent brings me through a working day. I perceive the Sillage as neat, but not exaggerated - throughout the day the fragrance withdraws without losing its presence altogether. The bottle is simple, but pretty.

In this sense a nice weekend with peace and strength - and hopefully a successful introduction to the commentary world of Profumo ;)

Far too soon gone (been) from us
Left bank or left bank means this revealing perfume name. What the name means from the deeper meaning has not yet been revealed to me, but it really doesn't matter. Because the quality of this fragrance is not in the naming.

I'll just get something out. I have a weakness for classic scents, but they are not meant to remind you of a retirement home. Well-known seniors' residence fragrances include Monsieur de Givenchy, Chanel pour Monsieur EdT and Lauder for Men Cologne. All very good scents, but I would not wear them because they do not suit me. Quasi a single fate.
Then there are classic fragrances, like YSL Jazz (here I find the newer version extremely wearable), Chanel Platinum and also MFK masculin Pluriel (is a rather new fragrance, but plays "classical" music in me).

And then there's Rive Gauche. Which, in its relative simplicity, has such a bombastic effect. If I had to describe the fragrance with one word, it would be "shaving cream." Granted, it sounds very unspectacular. But it really isn't! The oak moss, which is actually part of the basic equipment of every senior residence fragrance, does not really appear as an individual component at RG. Even the lavender, which I can only tolerate in moderation, only plays along with a gentle nuance. Vetiver provides, at least in the first half hour, a little bit of "nuttiness" and nestles slightly sweetly to you. I dare to say that the "shaving foam" comes mainly from guaiac wood, which carries the scent for many hours.

With Rive Gauche I smell like freshly shaved and clean all day long without giving your impression of shower gel (I like to emphasize here that I have nothing against so-called shower gel scents).

Speaking of many hours. These hours can be saved by using the spray head a little more courageously in the morning. The first time I put it on, I was a little reluctant with the dosage, as I could not yet estimate if the scent could be too strong. My impression is that if it is applied too thin, it actually has the same silage as shaving foam. So if you are looking for something more than just a skin-tight companion (but for at least 10 hours), please don't spray shyly.
The fact that Rive Gauche is no longer available in the shop is a sacrilege. A perfumer friend of mine suspected that, with the concentration of many perfume houses on the Asian market, it would be difficult to find too spicy fragrances. Since people in the Far East like to smell reservedly. In my opinion this decision of the house YSL is more than regrettable, no matter what the motives were.

Should there be any information from your ranks about comparable fragrances, I would be very pleased.

Thanks for reading

In search of the special scent ....
...I stumbled across my old signature scent yesterday by accident... ...that I had thought for years I would NEVER be able to smell again But from the front ........
It is the year 2003, I ... who was just 22 years old, was on holiday in southern Germany In any city, in any perfumery I bought any perfume .......IMPORTANT on this holiday was ONLY this sample of RIVE GAUCHE that they gave me ......the rest of the day I spent to find a perfumery, which has this new fragrance in the assortment From the first second I was hooked on this perfume .... I just had to have it, no matter what it costs For many years it was MY fragrance, and I have been asked about this perfume dozens of times In 2011 the fragrance has been relaunched ......which I only found out years later .......and again I had bad luck, because again it was simply not possible to get to this fragrance And if it does, then at utopian prices :(
Yesterday I was again in the City Gallery, where Douglas & Müller are only a few meters apart, looking for the special .
I had written several scents on my flag .... and I didn't really want to go to Müller .... one scent was from Yves Saint Laurent ... and when I came down the escalator and the view went straight towards MÜLLER, I saw the various YSL scents from a distance, at that moment I decided to go to Müller While searching for the actual YSL fragrance, I couldn't believe my eyes ......there was actually still a bottle of YSL Rive Gauche :)........It was a VERY short visit to the miller, and I had a 2 meter wide grin on my face all the way home.
The nice lady in the miller told me that especially this fragrance is not listed in her online repertoire, and also only VERY rarely arrives in limited quantities .
Never in my life would I have thought to be allowed to take up this fragrance again in my collection .

By the way, my bottle is not black, but completely transparent, and on the side it says

ACCORDS
LAVANDE
GERANIUM
PATCHOULI
VETIVER
BOIS DE GAIAC

2003

Regarding the Sillage the original was stronger in my opinion .... but what the heck, the durability is about 8 hours on the skin, on clothing definitely longer The flacon is ok, even if I liked the "can" better .

The ultimate shaving cream king
If there's one barbershop scent that's handcrafted, well-made, and wholly shaving cream, it's Rive Gauche.

He is very fresh, also soapy, in the Drydown then creamy becoming. Through and through he acts masculine, but renounces the often old-fashioned tobacco and leather thunderstorm of some competitors. That makes it wearable. I see him, however, rather on a man from the late 30s.

Sadly, the opening of barbershops even in small towns has had no effect on a new rise of Fougere fragrances. And so this fragrance has now been discontinued, despite being a masterpiece. But for what? For the 26th flanker of L'Homme? For the all inconsequential new creations in the Y range? I hope the folks at L'Oreal aren't shooting down one legend after another now. Maybe they need a new cash cow, but hopefully not at the expense of all the masterpieces from YSL.

Does the title say it all? ':D

By chance or the goodness of a souker, I came across a small sample of Rive Gauche at some point, and actually tested it again because I read that the new "Coach Platinum" reminds me of that.

Wow, that would be an obvious reason for me to skip that. ':D

I have already tested Rive Gauche once, as mentioned, and even then he could not "convince" me. This time the deja vu:
Arghhhh, so dry... so barbershop. So mercilessly clean, bone dry, and hard. No freshness that cushions everything somehow, and just a little subtle sweetness that comes across like smelling a flower far too close. Or licking soap. I CAN'T! Wah! N

But of course the phenomenon that you can't get fragrances you don't like off your skin, no matter how often you wash your hands. Is there a trick? Maybe with oil? Alcohol? Argh it is so bad, the smell comes again and again briefly into my nose...

I still manage to jump over my shadow and appreciate the style. I mean, I find it made "valuable", and I can feel that people whose noses are calibrated to such brute guys smells find it very good.
But it's nothing to me. And never will. And who now accuses me of being a "mainstreamy", I carry out Amouage Jubilation XXV Sometimes casual as if there was nothing there, okayyy? ;)

Everyone has their own individual taste, and this is where my borderline runs. ^^

It smells exactly like shaving cream with lavender and geranium. It doesn't have a huge dose of oakmoss which keeps it relatively modern.

Barbershop but served in a way that doesn't smell like previous era. Shaving-creamy lavender, good for a mature, confident, elegant man.

Clean and soapy shaving cream scent. A modern take on the classic barbershop fougère.
