Ellocar

The company "Ellocar" is said to have been founded in 1936 in Düsseldorf at the address Rosmarinstraße 12-18 by the married couple Carl and Elly Höppner. It was entered in the commercial register on October 15, 1938 under the name "Ellocar Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung Werkstätten für Parfümerie und Kosmetik".

The name "Ellocar" is said to be made up of the first letters of the first names Elly and Carl as an expression of the harmonious cooperation between the married couple. The couple already had a foothold in the perfumery industry with the "Carl Höppner K.G. Parfümeriefabrik", founded in 1924, and supplied department stores with affordable products. Under the "Ellocar" brand, the entrepreneurial couple intended to place perfumery and cosmetic products as branded goods in upmarket specialist stores. The good quality of the products and the placement of advertisements are said to have led to the desired success. In addition to Ellocar Eau de Cologne, the company's portfolio is said to have included Ellocar beauty care, nail polish, lipsticks, face masks and a hair growth tonic.

The company was deleted from the commercial register on November 9, 1964 with the simultaneous registration of "Ellocar Cosmetic GmbH", which existed until September 9, 1991. Business reports from various sources show that before the final deletion of the company, at least the color cosmetics division under the "Ellocar" brand was probably one of the holdings of major international corporations.
