Interesting Facts

In the world of jewelry, the name "Mauboussin" definitely stands out. Over the decades, the company has been able to preserve its pristine reputation, acquire a hand-picked clientele, and dominate the industry.

The label dates back to 1827, when the jeweler Rocher opened a small jewelry workshop in Paris. Successes followed during the Paris World's Fair in 1878. Rocher's successor was Jean-Baptiste Noury, who also employed his nephew Georges Mauboussin as an apprentice. In 1883, he took over the management and changed the name to "Mauboussin."

A move brought the workshop, showrooms, and salesrooms closer to downtown Paris and the target audience. At large display windows, "Mauboussin'' presented the most ravishing and sometimes unique diamonds, rubies, and emeralds.

Touse remained in family ownership in the following years while expanding in Cannes, New York, and Moscow. However, the boutique on Place Vendôme in Paris, which opened in 1955, is considered the center of French jewelry.

The portfolio includes everything that can be amplified with precious stones, from necklaces, rings, and bracelets, wedding jewelry (wedding and engagement rings, tiaras, etc.) to watches, leather goods (bags, purses), and other accessories (fragrances, sunglasses).

Georges Mauboussin was eventually made a Knight of the Legion of Honor for his notable services to the French jewelry industry.
