Interesting Facts
The man behind the label "Matière Première" is the French master perfumer Aurélien Guichard, who was born in Grasse on the Côte d'Azur and grew up there. Fragrant scents have long been the passion of his family, which is why Guichard became a seventh-generation creative expert in the field. So fragrance design, raw materials, and global partnerships were familiar to Aurélien Guichard from an early age.
Initially, Guichard worked for the Swiss fragrance label "Givaudan" for several years. However, he disliked the industrial mass production of fragrances because, in his opinion, the quality suffers and the original aroma is lost. Therefore, in 2019, with 1.3 million euros in funding, he founded his label, which he christened "Matière Première" ("Raw Material").
The brand's first collection included six different perfumes. Each fragrance in the collection incorporates all aspects of the exquisite aromas and ingredients to create the highest quality scents.
The raw materials used in "Matière Première" are carefully selected according to region, type of cultivation, and methods of extraction. Despite the further processing, the basic material still comes into play and, at "Matière Première", these are guaiac wood, lemon oil, frankincense, sandalwood, or ambrette seeds.
Aurélien Guichard has made it to more than 140 fragrances in a short time (including "Givaudan" and "Quest International").
"Matière Première" fragrances can be found online, in upscale department stores, and on the label's homepage.

The perfect leather?
When I received the Matiere Premiere test set, this was the first fragrance I tested. It literally hit me after spraying it on. Strongly reminiscent of cannabis vape cartridges, of wood and in my opinion has a rather restrained leather note....
