Adolph H. Goetting

Adolph H. Goetting was born on May 28, 1851 in Germany and died on October 1, 1929 in Suffern, New York, USA.

Relatively little is known about his life story. It is said that he got into the perfume business with his father. In 1871, he founded the "A. Goetting & Company'' in New York, 264 Spring Street, and produced perfumes that were distributed through retailers.

In 1896, David H. McConnell took over the "A. Goetting & Company'' and hired Adolph H. Goetting as chief chemist of his ''California Perfume Company''.

The chemist and perfumer enjoyed a high reputation during the time of his work. David H. McConnell, founder of the "California Perfume Company" and later "Avon Products Inc." wrote about Adolph H. Goetting in 1903:

"Therefore, in 1896, I secured the services of the best perfumer I could find, a gentleman who had been in the perfume business himself for 25 years and had the reputation in New York and vicinity for making the finest perfumes on the American market. In order to secure his services I was obliged to buy out his business and close up his laboratory, and he now has full charge of the manufacturing of every ounce of goods that we put out."
