Anpu - Neb-ta-djeser
Anubis - the jackal-headed god of death - probably radiates a mystical fascination like hardly any other, even into modern times. Worshipped in ancient Egypt as a pioneer and guardian for the dead on their way to life in the hereafter, he is now a welcome subject for creative perfumers in particular.

Aaron's preoccupation with the subject probably also has something to do with the outward appearance of the god. While jackal, dog and wolf were hardly distinguishable for the Egyptians, Aaron is a passionate dog lover. So it is hardly surprising that he donates a large part of the proceeds of the fragrance to a charity for dogs (Soidog.org). At the time of this review it is already more than 3000 British pounds for this little soul, without a voice of his own.

The fragrance itself is strongly based on four main notes: Frankincense, honey, musk and sandalwood. The incense in particular - as a cultic resin - combines all the notes like a veil. Still quite dominant in the first hour, it increasingly sinks into a warm combination of dark honey and tobacco.

Again and again moments of toffee flash up, which I would attribute to the mixing of the protagonists with vanilla and amber.

The sandalwood contributes more with its subdued, smoky texture, extending the veil between the worlds as the incense slowly softens towards drydown. Here, dark musk also takes over a bit and lets the fragrance fade away in its mystical aura after more than 10 hours.

Anubis is very, very powerful.

And with this he also does credit to his namesake.
