Back to the nineties
A long time ago, I had obtained a place to study in Berlin. My parents were strictly against it. I was allowed to choose a "small town nearby" instead. One came to my mind. A dream shattered, but the idea of studying soon was so exciting that it didn't take too long before I was looking forward to this small town too.
When I was looking for a place to live there, I came across a house in the countryside with a tiny room that was offered there for subletting. It was incredibly small and cost, I remember exactly, 150 marks a month. Although it seemed out of the question to venture such a special new beginning, I was fascinated by an image that had taken root in my youthful, romantic mind: an antique wardrobe, probably a fir tree, with a crumpled straw hat hanging from it.
By now at the latest, all men should stop reading, but they should anyway, the perfume we're talking about here is clearly called "Authentic Woman". And that's why I allow myself to be authentic: from that moment on I dreamed of such a hat. And of a bicycle with a straw basket in the front. And of a Laura Ashley dress with flowers, which was so ultra-modern at that time and whose style can be found in every store this summer as well - as a retro look, of course, but not badly made, as those who owned a Laura Ashley dress at that time will agree with me. I definitely wanted to go shopping in the medieval market with such a dress and with such a bike on a bright summer day. Incorrigibly romantic. And something else settled in my head, which was decorated with romantic wickerwork: The first rendezvous in this city was to take place in the gothic cloister of the cathedral there.
Well, what can I say - I got the dress during a city stroll with my mother in Cologne, one year later, when I changed the subject I had started with in the small town. The first rendezvous had taken place at the kitchen table of my shared flat and nothing more came of it. But there's one thing that I still have very much around me: the scent I was wearing at the time. I don't know which one it was, and I wondered about it for many years - until last autumn when I came across "Authentic Woman" in a turquoise shop. Sprayed once with the tester - and experienced an incredibly authentic journey through time. "Authentic Woman" is a fragrance that fits perfectly into the nineties, and I'm sure that my fragrance at that time was almost identical: a beautiful, delicately fruity opening, not too sweet, not too fruit-sour, perfectly balanced and at the same time so cheerful, so good-humored that you want to dance around in an instant. As soon as the flowers come into play - and they are cheerful, gentle, yet very precisely unmistakably fragrant spring flowers - a happy smile spreads across the face, and if you're still experiencing this phase in perfumery, this is where it gets embarrassing. Especially the lily of the valley is so cheerfully fresh and at the same time so extraordinarily present that it is fun to sniff your arm all the time. Incidentally, the flowers sway in the summer fruit par excellence: a juicy-sweet nectarine that could pass for a peach at any time. But it remains really reserved, enveloping, not obtrusive. The base is solid, slightly woody, harmonious and grounds the high altitude flight a little. The whole thing is an unbelievably beautiful summer pleasure and lasts for a long time, about six hours you are on the road with this scent. The Sillage is quite outstanding, which is what I like most about this fragrance; I perceive it for a long time on myself and experience this good mood feeling for a whole morning. All in all: Back to the nineties!
