On fragrant tracks and aromatic paths - Italy Part 2
It's early August. I'm in Rome, and it's a scorching heat. Our central star steals from the sky as if you were in an oven. The air shimmers in the winding side streets and there is a smell of overheated tar Rome was another destination of our Italy Tour. Although we knew that in this heat it would be like running a gauntlet through the city, the temptation was big enough to visit Rome. Especially now in the Corona time out, when people are not crowding in on people and the city is bursting at the seams!
Rome is a colossal city. Shaped by antiquity, influenced by modernity, endowed with an Italian flair like I have never experienced anywhere else in Italy. And so our calculation worked out, and we were able to create an almost deserted! Colosseum, take pictures on the Spanish stairs without other passers-by, and look around in the winding side streets without being crushed.
But just this heat - it was merciless. And so it happened that I discovered a small profumeria in one of these wonderfully Italian-looking side streets.
Of course, water is the first choice in hot weather, but a refreshing fragrance, ideally of Italian manufacture, can't hurt...
No sooner said than done, I took a dive in the Profumeria...and came back a while later with my new acquisition. Acqua dell Elba "Blu Uomo" was recommended to me by the owner. I found the top note of the fragrance refreshing, sparkling and maritime. And I wanted an Italian product. To test the fragrance further, and because of the spontaneous sympathy I bought it. Unfortunately, Rome didn't get any cooler because of this - but I was a little more refreshed and my collection was one fragrance richer!
Blu Uomo begins with a sparkling, refreshing and beautiful citrus note. Lemon, orange, tangerine play the first orchestra. Southern citrus fruits, as fresh as if they were still hanging from the tree. In my case, it is often the case that such freshly appearing scents unfortunately develop a certain toilet stone association. This effect hardly or not at all occurs with this fragrance. If this would have been the case, the purchase would have disappointed me. Because whether Blu shows this tendency, I could not quite estimate in the Profumeria.
This initial freshness is compensated by a well implemented twist. A certain tangy-woody component accompanies the fragrance. Oak moss contributes a slightly green-moss facet, and cedar wood this tangy-woody sprinkler. The fragrance is by no means pushed away from its basic theme, but is supported by it. What remains is a blue, maritime, fresh scent that fits the south like a fist to the eye. Of course to the summer!
The probably used mastic resin is in its original form small, spherical and bright yellow. It is the resin of the wild pistachio tree, and is also called the tears of Chios. The smell is described as sweet-fresh, resinous-spicy and reminiscent of citrus fruits.
In my opinion, this additional ingredient rounds off the fragrance and thus the overall olfactory impression perfectly. This light citric resinousness makes the fragrance very soft at the end...
Projection as well as durability are more in line with what one can expect from blue scents. I would argue in favour of a diplomatic midfield here. Nevertheless, Blu will still be perceived as a beautiful skin scent for quite some time Taken as a whole, Blu for me is a beautiful, well-made Italian summer scent. I'm sure that every time I smell it, it will remind me of that extraordinary day in Rome.
As in part 1, I have included a few pictures of Rome in my album, in order to follow this description with a few more visual impressions.
Stay tuned and thank you for reading
