The fine oak
Colonia Quercia - a cologne enriched with oak, oak wood, oak leaves. My expectation for this fragrance lies somewhere in the wood sector. Not heavy, depressing, dark wood, however, but oak. Bright, clear, pure
And Colonia Quercia does not disappoint me. Typical of the brand is a fresh start for practically all Acqua di Parma's. What I smell, apart from the ever-present citrus notes, is a surprisingly good portion of bergamot, which is not at all dominant but rather resonant. Wood? At least at the beginning I don't notice any of that. Less than an hour later, the fragrance has undergone a very fine transformation. The bergamot is only faintly perceptible and makes room for wooden tones. And this in a very successful way, because the lemon gives the whole ensemble a nice freshness. Another hour later, the fragrance develops one step further. The overall impression becomes a bit drier, I suspect that this is due to the increased influence of wood. And towards the end, in my case in about 7-8 hours, the dryness turns into a soft creaminess, before Quercia finally says goodbye.

What gets stuck. A fine fragrance, not for everyone and not for every day. From the brown Acqua di Parma series I find this one the most successful. Because it is incredibly independent and unmistakable. Who does it suit? Normally I find fragrances more for younger or older people, this one suits everyone, no matter what age. Season? Well, in my opinion it's a bit too full for summer, too warm. Quercia is at its best on cooler days in spring or autumn, it ennobles every outfit in winter as well. The flacon is in AdP style, as I said in this brown tone that identifies the series, no visual excitement, but okay to look at.

Shelf life and sillage are ok, although the sillage could be a bit stronger for my taste.

A fine fragrance that subtly supports its wearer's appearance without disrespectfully knocking everything else off left and right. Not mainstream, not even a special offer. But mMn worth every cent.

Wrong turn in front of the base
Although I haven't really been working as a druggist for 100 years, the nomenclatures of medicinal herbs that are stored in the memory of specialist jargon have remained true to this day. Therefore, it still feels to me as if a drawer is opened in which the name, plant, family, ingredients, mode of action, use, application etc. etc. of a drug are stored. And before now again the inevitable demands come after the term "drug" with e.g. chamomile blossoms: A drug is actually a dried part of a plant used to produce drugs. Hence the professional title drugstore, or druggist. A profession that has unfortunately become more or less superfluous in the meantime. Colloquially today only mind-altering drugs are referred to as such.

In any case, it was immediately clear to me with the names Quercia that oak moss or oak bark must play a decisive role in this fragrance. I still know today what oak bark tastes like when you chew on the pieces, because we often used it as a chewing gum substitute. Herb, astringent (astringent) and a little strict, that's what I remember. My expectation was of course also that and I hoped to see a new star rise in my fragrance sky, because bitter fragrances are not really the current trend.

It starts relatively harmlessly. The citrus-fresh top note leads to a really interesting and for me very pleasant heart note. Cardamdom and cedar play the spicy and serious leading role here. My enthusiasm is really growing, I like that and the wish list is already flashing, because the oak moss basis is already clearly to be guessed
But then it happens again: As so often, the base takes a completely different direction, because once again Tonka bean, frightened by so much courage of the perfumer, quickly dampens the seriousness of the fragrance with its creamy sweetness. You almost have to be thankful that vanilla wasn't also used to slow down the efforts for a strong and powerful fragrance. Powdery patchouli instead of e.g. clean incense does the rest to finally lose the red thread of Quercia.

Now the scent is just nice. And that's so superfluous on my rating scale. An opportunity was missed to create a truly expressive, serious unisex fragrance for lovers of herbal fragrances that addresses the strength and resilience of its eponym. More than mediocre has unfortunately not become of it.
