One Iris to Rule Them All
Iris Nazarena is my most wearable iris scent that I find truly masterful, beautiful and unique. It uses a different kind of iris, the Bismarckiana variety that grows in the mountainous regions of Israel, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria. It's exceptionally delicate but still long-lasting; it's noticeable 8+ hours later even though it's not in your face.
It starts off with iris, slightly powdery, and sweet, this scent is typically thought of as dusty and dry, and it is those things, but below the dry surface, the roots are teeming with life. If Iris Silver Mist is the scent of Hades, then this is Persephone's perfume, the goddess of Spring and the goddess of the Underworld. This perfume is an appreciation of both death and life, arid and rooty, yet filled with vibrance. The sweetness is accentuated by incense, the dryness by suede. The juniper and anise bring out umami in the scent, it has a complementary quality that balances sweet, sour, bitter, and salty notes.
What's wonderful about this perfume, is that you can't smell the notes individually, they all exist to complement the iris and as it develops you experience different qualities of the flower, from it blooming to it drying out and being processed into its usage for perfume.
Truly wonderful, possibly my favourite iris perfume for how it honours- worships the note!
