Hold your breath for a moment
It took me a long time to take the courage to dedicate a comment to this exceptional fragrance, since Annette Neuffer's fragrances are a class of their own and I lack the experience to place them in an overall context, let alone to judge them.

In the beginning I perceive A Sanctified Rose as a somewhat impetuous and pure incense scent, which quickly develops a very light, pleasant powdery-dry sweetness, which floats cool and like a light mist over the skin. This floating fragrance is so beautiful for me that I want to hold my breath for a moment and time seems to stand still.

Over time I also perceive a fine and delicate scent of roses, but it is completely unsweet and of an ethereal lightness that may have been responsible for some of the comments that have been made so far to consider whether it is perceptible at all
After 4 to 5 hours, the fragrance on my skin is most beautifully developed, to incense, rose and some other magic, which I cannot identify, a beautiful and unflushed vanilla joins. The fragrance is never rough or edgy, but has a slight brittleness or crumbliness, which I find wonderful.

A Sanctified Rose sounds light and gentle and the next morning I want to capture the very last traces of this miracle on my skin.

The sample of this fragrance came to me in the nicest possible way and for that I thank you very, very much!

And if you're the rose, I'm a rose shadow
I have hesitated for a long time with a review of this fragrance, although I am not usually embarrassed by words. The components and their combination have already been explained in detail and I can only supplement my perception here: For me, A Sanctified Rose is primarily an incense scent. Olibanum aspects dominate, but are clearly flanked by the balsamic notes of benzoin, wax, opoponax, etc., which are more and more prominent in the course of the development, again intertwined with wood and vanilla - typical for Annette Neuffer's style, one is seamlessly integrated into the other as in the ornaments of the Alhambra. As Luca Turin writes, texture and structure are one, finely chiselled. The Labdanum plays an important role, but fits seamlessly into the overall picture, instead of standing out as often in perfumes with dark dustiness (aesthetically intended e.g. in Vendetta pour homme, rather clumsy in some House of Matriarch fragrances). So here we are dealing with a really impressive olfactory ornamentation, as one visually knows it from the most noble Persian art and architecture, and one would have to approach it as closely as possible to recognize individual components - which one wouldn't want, however, because the overall picture, which is ultimately what it is all about, is so beautiful to look at. Where is the sacred rose found? It is undoubtedly present, even in the centre of the action, but more as a silhouette resulting from all the interwoven lines and patterns than as a presence of its own. "And if you are the rose, I am a rose shadow" (Sufi Master Rumi). Not a picture, but a (more perfect?) paraphrase, that is the secret of Islamic art. In the contemplation of this deep fragrant beauty, woven from nature and great craftsmanship, like a temple in Samarkand or Isphahan (a place of roses) there are no words missing, as there are no pictures missing, they become superfluous.

Rose and Resin
Elemi is a dark wonder that can beautify anything, IMO. Frankincense ennobles all it touches. Add Bay leaf and Black pepper and we have a spicily alluring top note beckoning us to surprising eastern roses. But let's skip them for a moment and note the presence of Labdanum in both heart and base. Luxury! Next read the rest of the base and imagine those deeply mesmerizing smells with all else. Now think rose, but not Bulgarian. A Persian rose, a slightly green Turkish rose. Then realize it's ALL natural. Anyone have a Persian carpet for me to wrap myself in and then be rolled out at the foot of Caesar? Good gracious this is a sophisticated, sexy, high quality rose. If it doesn't cost an arm and a leg, I'm buying it.

A smoldering rose...
Low, thrumming along from beginning to end. A rounded sensuous bottom-of-the-garden rose shimmering in moonlight...need I say how much I love it.

A bit of background - I am a lady of a certain age with dry skin living in a mildly southern climate on the East Coast of the US. I love all things oriental - and I love roses. (Anyone remember La Rose Jacqueminot? It DID bring an entire department store to it's knees...) And I love ANYthing Jazz Lady puts her talents to.

Anyway, this saintly rose is going into permanent rotation in my collection - vive Annette Neuffer!
