Clean citrus musk straight out of the shower
Banana Republic’s Classic is a simple, fresh, citrusy musk. I’m really, really not big on fresh musk fragrances (yet another gift from my father, oops), but this is the least offensive one in my collection. It’s softer and more elegant— probably the florals at play— making it feminine-leaning unisex. Slight sweet like crisp clementine, but if you love sweet fragrances don’t expect much. The ginger thankfully isn’t too spicy. It reminds me of those travel sized complimentary liquid body washes from a hotel that you would take home while on vacation to use again later. If you’re trying to smell like you just stepped out of the shower, this is a bright and refreshing choice. I think it works very well as a professional daytime summer and perhaps late spring fragrance, though other occasions are appropriate as well. I don’t dislike it, and it has somewhat grown on me, which is saying something if you know of my tastes.

Classic "Abstract" Cologne
Banana Republic CLASSIC is indeed a "classic", rather masculine-smelling cologne. The composition reminds me quite a bit of the Calvin Klein omnisex jug perfumes: somewhat aquatic, somewhat citrusy, vague and indistinct as far as specific notes are concerned. Among the synthetic floral renditions, this one may contain water lily or lotus or something else light and inobtrusive, compatible with these sorts of modern scents, which also sometimes contain tea notes—and this one may as well.

CLASSIC is really quite evasive, when all is said and sniffed, a sort of “one-size-fits-all” fragrance. As this fragrance dries down, a vetiver-like note becomes more and more evident, making this seem, again, a classic made-for-men perfume. Overall, this sort of modern (largely synthetic) perfume, comprising primarily “abstract” notes, does not appeal to me very much, but for those looking for this sort of thing, I'm sure that CLASSIC would do quite well. Nothing to get excited about, but also nothing to offend.

Not bad as an uncontroversial, unobtrusive classic " clean " office scent. Not really good either.
