Interesting Facts

Barnängen is one of Sweden's best-known brands and was founded in 1868 by Johan Wilhelm Holmström. The merchant named his company after the area "Barnängen" in the district of Södermalm in Stockholm. The first company headquarters were at Stora Bondegatan 39. The brand's name was entered in the trademark register in 1875. In 1983, the Swedish royal couple inaugurated Barnängen's new production facility on Ekerö. In 1992, the company was sold to Henkel. Today, "Henkel Norden AB" stands behind the Barnängen brand.

Barnängen has been Purveyor to the Royal Court since 1876. In Sweden, a Purveyor to the Royal Court is honored by the monarch with the title "Kunglig Hovleverantör" (Purveyor to the Royal Court) for merit and the high quality of the products. Swedish Purveyors to the Royal Court are granted the privilege of publicly displaying the great coat of arms. The award of this title is proof of the high esteem in which the company is held.

The first products manufactured by Barnängen, which at the time were still handcrafted, were ink and Eau de Cologne in exclusive packaging. From 1873, the company also produced soaps. In 1885, Barnängen made the image of a bear its trademark, which still adorns the brand's children's products today. The foundation stone for children's care ranges was laid in the 1930s. In the 1950s, the company modernized its soap production and was the first company in the world to introduce the De Laval Centripure process to shorten production times and improve quality.

Today, Barnängen produces a wide range of body and hair care products for children and adults, which are said to be made from natural ingredients. Despite intense competition in this sector, Barnängen maintains its position as one of Sweden's strongest brands. To our knowledge, no perfumes are currently sold under the Barnängen brand.
