American Dream: Unique and Curious Cologne
"Un1t3d is the first Twin of fragrances signed by Blauer, designed for both man and woman. The inspiration comes from the authentic, creative, and cool style of the brand made in the USA to create two precious and ambivalent fragrances: the high concentration of natural essence matches in fact with the exceptional hi-tech content of the packaging. Blauer, uncompromising performance". That is what the advertisement states about it. I did quick research, and these creations are from the contemporary Italian nose Luca Maffei, a niche perfumer who even created Stone for Him, which I love to wear on a fall cold day.
I've had my eye on it for a while. It was just a few weeks ago that I stumbled upon it on an online shop and ordered it. Damn!, Un1t3d is a good juice, feeling the American metropolitan atmosphere, the scent of a city. The very masculine and safe aroma from the Aromatic and Fougère families, with a reminiscent deja vu sensation that appears known and familiar, is unique and curious. Yet, it has some vibes and accords similar to a little bit of "Aventus (Eau de Parfum) | Creed" leatheriness, a little bit of Terre d'Hermès Eau de Toilette harshness, and a little bit of Sauvage Eau de Toilette mildness.
In the opening, the citrus brightness and powderiness of the bergamot are twisted with happy and crispy tones of green apple. Here is like a freshly cut fruit full of bittersweet juice. All this blend is animated by the spicy freshness of the cardamom and the resinousness of the elemi. The latter elements balance the tart and sweet tones, offering an overture that awakes the senses. Here is where I detect a relationship with Creed Aventus, without the touch of the pineapple.
The heart is intensified by the inebriating scent of pittosporum blossom surrounded by wisps of incense and inlays of leather. Please take a deep breath, and there it is. a smell of honey and orange suddenly hits me, sweet and floral and robust enough to lie down on. "What is that?". It is the pittosporum, whose blossoms release the most intoxicating aroma reminiscent of osmanthus, orange blossom, and orchid. That is the scent of a city, the heady essence of oranges. Un1t3d and Terre d'Hermès share the heart, the orangey bitterness, and the incense smokiness keep the two as one.
The wooden background combines the masculinity of cedarwood with the depth of patchouli and the synthetic moss, sheltering on a soft base of amber and musky accord. I bet the amber used in Un1t3d is an ambroxan molecule, which makes the dry down closely akin to Dior Sauvage, I can detect the same sensual and delightful sweetness.
Spot on, Mr Luca Maffei! Un1t3d is a deja vu, yet unique and curious men's cologne. I figure out modern guys wearing this while commuting on a business day, while travelling on a business affair, yet while meeting with friends for dinner, a drink, or a night outdoors. Spring and Fall cold/warm seasons are ideal unless I'm using it throughout this hot summer, and it deserves my respect. Both longevity and sillage are average, reapply if you wish to wear it all day long. That's an amusing American dream!
I base the review on a 100ml bottle I have owned since June 2018.
