Summer fragrance at its finest

Out of curiosity, I ordered a small bottle and casually sprayed it on. Wow! What is that? In the first few seconds, a refreshing lemon and bergamot mix hits my skin, making it fizz. A sweet tangerine interjects and dims the first impression into a mildly fruity light. Spicy juniper and wonderfully tart ginger emerge and harmonize the fragrance without taking away its freshness and citrusiness. These fragrance notes shimmer and sparkle on my skin like little diamonds in the sun. Every few minutes, a different note moves into the front row, only to leave the stage to another note a little later. It goes on like this for quite a while and is a lot of fun for my nose. Only very late on does white musk shroud the glittering stones in its delicate veil. I have not yet been able to find tonka, tobacco and patch in the drydown. H/S are quite decent for a freshy. Sprayed on chilled, it will certainly be my star during the hot weeks.

Pleasant gin-and-tonic modern freshie

Sampling Bon Parfumeur 004 Gin Mandarin Musc, and like 003 (which I sampled yesterday), this is a really pleasant blend that feels aptly described by the titular trio of notes, with fresh/sweet/tart playing against junipery/somewhat boozy gin, tastefully modern but with enough of a classic cologne aspect, something vaguely reminding me of Dior Eau Sauvage, that it’s a nice innovation while not being terribly new or unique. A bit of a gin-and-tonic cologne vibe, overall, while not insisting heavily on the alcoholic aspect.

The concentration is EDP with retail pricing of $107/53/34 for 100/30/15ml, sold at boutiques like Ministry of Scent from which. It performs pretty well, also.

Waiter, there's soap in my drink

Booze, spice and tobacco would fit well in a thick and heavy winter scent. This perfume doesn't have the depth and body to survive in winter, though. Bon Parfumeur chose a clean musk for a base and as a result this is now a light summer cocktail. Spicy gin-tobacco with soap bubbles. Not to everyone's liking as it really has a bathtub vibe now and then. But I particularly enjoy the combination of juniper, ginger and tobacco leaves, so I take the soap bubbles for granted. Ideal for poolside chilling.
