Nice spicy woody perfume - but expensive for what it offers.
903 Nepalese berries, saffron, oud from Bon Parfumeur
This review is based on a sample I received from Bon Parfumeur, in a tiny screw-top bottle. In my opinion, this perfume exemplifies everything good and bad about Bon Parfumeur.
The opening notes are beautiful and sophisticated. The Nepalese berries really shine here, with a hint of saffron and coriander seeds (not cilantro leaves). According to the perfumer, Nepalese berries have a spicy floral citrus scent, and the opening notes really show that. I have no personal experience with Nepalese berries, neither do I know its provenance. However, that beautiful floral citrus disappears in a few minutes, revealing the heart notes. This middle section for my nose is a pleasant leathery smell, probably a blend of cashmeran, musk and something from the base notes. Unfortunately, these notes are nice but unexceptional. The base notes that follow are a very weak blend of sandalwood and musk, and perhaps some oud. The oud is questionable in this perfume, and I list oud only because it is listed as a note. It could also be the Tonkin musk accord that Bon Parfumeur lists as animalic, woody and sensual.
The longevity is very good and the sillage and projection are appropriate for a mature sedate perfume. I don’t consider this perfume a good fit for a young person in a large social setting like a bar.
My main question with 903 is not whether it is a good perfume, but if it is worth the $190 they charge for a full bottle. The answer is no! This is a perfume I would buy for under $50 from a grey market seller.
