When the Chemnitz combine "VEB Trikotex" was put up for sale after the GDR, Klaus Jungnickel and Wolfgang Jassner won the bid. With the infrastructure and know-how available on the outskirts of Chemnitz, the two entrepreneurs founded their "Bruno Banani Underwear GmbH" at the end of 1993.

Initially, the label produced high-quality underwear for men and women. The company took advantage of a relocation to the center of Chemnitz to expand its product range and staff. Since then, the collection has also included men's and women's underwear, lifestyle, leisure fashion, home textiles, swimwear, as well as luxurious fragrances.

The success of "Bruno Banani" is based, to a large extent, on TV commercials, very clever PR events, and high-quality collections. For example, the 1997 "ECO Challenge" tested the underwear under extreme conditions. In 2001, the underwear traveled to the deep sea of the Bermuda Triangle, and for the "World Trike Tour" (2012), "Bruno Banani" sponsored a light aircraft. From the successful PR campaigns, the company then creates catchy slogans to advertise the portfolio, which helps the worldwide exposure of the brand.
