Boah ey! (German for „Woah!“)
Again, we have discovered something – thanks to DeGe53's great article in the parfumo blog (Thank You, DeGe53, for the samples!) we now know this interestant brand from Down Under! Bud Parfums very clearly relates itself to this Aussie image, and this is something you would not easily connect to perfumes. What may be behind it?

I will start cautiously, with the Cologne. From the description on the website I expect something like a Gentleman's Cologne, rather old school and roughly barber shop style. And so it starts – I smell the sharpness of a rather bland cologne, evoked by some notes that remind me vaguely on the mentioned pipe tobacco and leather.

However, the further development does not really cope with that cowboy image provided by Bud Parfums. I am sure australian stockmen will be offered the same globally marketed perfumes as we get in Europe. So, also in Australia I suppose the general taste is whatever you can find in those perfume chain stores. This is also what Whoa de Cologne refers to.

Whoa de Cologne changes its direction towards the heart notes: now I smell some things that I would refer to as variants of musk, connected to a very slight floral note. (Lily-of-the-valley? Violet?) Now we arrived at some style that may be maintained by brands like Hugo Boss – i.e. the Bottled scents or the In Motion line. Personally, I find this style rather urban and in no way cowboy-ish.

But this is not so bad – these musky attemps, that i.e. made a Boss Bottled Night become so popular all have this bodily touch which needs some skin to enfold itself. Whoa de Cologne may be quite expressionless on test paper – it really screems for men's skin!

Towards the base notes it becomes a little creamy for a short while, before a very discreet leather note takes over. This note smells somewhat like rubber and may give you the impression of a garage. I think, it is the same leather note that you can find in Bvlgari Black and in Ferrari Uomo.

Whoa de Cologne is a well done, discreet and wearable men's cologne. It reflects in no way our conception of exotic niche perfumery. Whoa de Cologne stays very nearby the concept of a contemporary mainstream perfume like those being sold by the big brands – only very cautiosly it withdraws from this concept with the means of that particular rare, hard-to-find leather note. The quality is better than mainstream: nothing in here is annoying or scratchy – only the sharpness of the top notes has to be tolerated. Prices are exactly on mainstream level, and this is truely acceptable.

Whoa de Cologne is good for ever day wear. But a "whoa" is certainly not what this very discreet scent will provoke.
