Pashazade The Ottoman Pasha's Son
Zade is a Persian-originated word that is used in Turkish meaning "son". It was not used as a single word, and it was generally used after the defined title as a nobility indicator. Such as asilzade, meaning nobleman, aristocrat or pashazade meaning the son of a Pasha, a title which was used to define dignitaries in the Ottoman Empire. And I bet Edition Noire is the Pashazade, neither a flanker nor a spin-off, but a natural son of Pasha, a modernized reinterpretation of the original. Its classy, manly, refined and elegant but at the same time modern,
Pasha Edition Noire is an excellent fragrance, maybe somewhat generic for Cartier, but it smells great. With Édition Noire, Nathalie Feisthauer animates the original Pasha's fougère accord with a breath of citrus freshness. As soon as it melts with my skin, it releases a citrus aroma that is still heavier than a freshie, classy, fresh, minty, aquatic and slightly peppery with dominant orange laying on top of a cosy amber. It is warm, amiable, and tender. After a few minutes, the crisp and chilly spiciness of the mint note arrives and gives it a more masculine edge. A gentle whisper of sea mist completes the top notes, not too salty or tangle, just pleasantly watery like a sea breeze. I find the opening to be quite interesting. On the one hand, I get some citrus aroma with light aquatic sensibilities, then, a warm woody combination to balance it. It is very fresh and clean, seemingly generic, but very attractive all the while.
It quickly evolves into something along the lines of Azzaro Elixir Pour Homme minus the berry notes. I love Azzaro Elixir. A bit fresh basket of flowers, with delicate iris, earthy violet, and sweet heliotrope, starts to emerge with a whisper of cedar yet to come. I get more flower mix from it on a semi-warm rainy summer day. The heart is softened by the inclusion of a light bouquet of florals, surrounded by a sharp clove that with its typical pungent tone follows the fragrance until the end. It is a very significant and lasting contrast of sweet, but not candy-like, it is more of a citrus sweetness mix with a powdery hint of violet and iris.
On the dry down, it smooths out and has a creamier vibe. It all leads into a woody and powdery base with dominant cedar and amber. I am missing the lively mossy vibe of Pasha that lays on the skin till the day after. Nevertheless, the ambroxan has not overdosed, it keeps the base smooth and luscious, but far from other amberish companions.
Edition Noir is not groundbreaking, but it is an extremely well-blended scent, crowd-pleasing. It's not very aquatic to my nose, more floral than watery, with sweetness and freshness that would be great in the warm months. Great for a date, maybe even work, or any occasion you can think of that you'd want to smell better than your typical day. The silage persists within my body, and it's staying power is like a late summer love affair, crisp and casually sexy but short-lived. It's perfect for the Spring and Summer season. It projects well but is not overpowering and longevity is feeble. I'm glad I had the chance to give it a try, but sadly I can't bring myself to promote this as even after applying large amounts it merely does not last, after just an hour it had faded into oblivion.
