greens, browns, purples, silvers
opens with tanginess, softly fresh-vegetal, complete with clinging clumps of earth. a rose on the wilt whispers quietly. all this is bound in ghostly, thin threads of powdery iris. a diffusion occurs in time, blurring the whole into finely milled, pressed matte powder; everything becomes a part of the whole, an iris painted with greens, browns, purples and silvers. poised, elegant, yet somehow warm and rounded. a subtle and eloquent scent.

Good is easy......All that is divine walks on tender feet....
With this beautiful quote from Friedrich Nietzsche the description could actually already end.

Good. Divine. Light. Delicate.
This is LA PAUSA.

However, this fragrance touches me so deeply that it is my heart's desire to pay homage to it in a little more detail and to bring its shimmering glow out into the world......

For over 35 years, I try - in dutiful regularity - now and then on iris fragrances.....a note that usually does not particularly appeal to me, and which has never been able to entice me to buy.......resulting from these countless experiences, my expectations were correspondingly low......

I tested only because of the "green notes", the information that vetiver is included and the fact that it is a Chanel....a house that I usually appreciate very much (from the "lion" ;-)...).....

About the fragrance

LA PAUSA is an extremely elegant fragrance, which captivates both by markedly distinguished restraint and by luxurious simplicity......er represents for me the serene ease of being, as it must have felt Mademoiselle Chanel, when she looked out on the terrace of her villa in Roquebrune on the sea at her feet......

The facets of iris that resound in LA PAUSA are far beyond mother earth, roots, carrots or lipsticks......far beyond anything too representational.....

Its sound is wonderfully natural, distinctly fragile and delicately silky......as if it breathes a soft melody that gently vibrates the bright green grasses and herbs surrounding it, eliciting from them a gentle whisper.......if spring birdsong were a scent, I would argue it is contained in LA PAUSA......

The "powdery notes" indicated in the pyramid are there, but never overpowering or even suffocating......no comparison to fragrances such as Teint de Neige......

We women know all about the different powder consistencies.....while the aforementioned TdN is the equivalent of thick concealer, LA PAUSA is a delicate touch of "translucent powder"......it merely provides a soft, matte-shimmer finish......

Finally, light woods give this enchantingly calm and meditative fragrance some substance.....just enough to keep it from breaking.....

Lovers of Chanel 19 Extrait (Vintage) should take a chance.....

Keep calm, even in crises.
Humorless! Herbaceous dust cloud irises! Extremely dressed up...I read in the descriptions here. Everything is true and yet not true. In search of an iris that is not quite as powdery as "°19 Poudré", that is green-transparent, that does not fill the room and is also a little bit more herbaceous (in a positive sense!), I stumbled over this fragrance. For a long time, the specimen lay unnoticed in the drawer. And a few months ago it would not have been noticed either. All winter long I was wrapped in warming-sweet scents. Sweeter scents than I had ever worn before. But now I've had enough. The current crisis is taking its toll on our household with two day-care children. The inner voice says daily, several times, clearly and loudly "Keep calm...!

I miss the uncomplicated going out into the countryside here in the city. Everything is more elaborate and uncomplicated these days. A raised forefinger hovers over everything. Nowhere to settle down, exhorting the children to keep their distance etc. I was longing for a green-grassy scent with a hint of herbaceousness, which would allow my mind to become as clear as the deep breathing of fresh sea air. It is bright and friendly like spring, but not as cuddly as my cotton-soft musk excursions in the past winter months. No, bright and radiant and spring-fresh I wished for a fragrance. And there it is!

Some here criticize durability and silage. The durability is many hours for me. My neighbours can certainly perceive the scent, but not like a Coco Mademoiselle, who is always a little ahead of me, but more like a fresh, cultivated aura. For some it may indeed seem too distinguished and elegant. After the green-fresh opening comes this pudgy note, which some describe as lipstick. But it remains fresh and light green in its aura. Just as it likes to be on days when the world inside is spinning particularly fast and you still need to keep a clear head.

Conclusion: no fragrance for everyone. But if you like the newer version of "N°19"

Was Going to Buy It
The top notes intrigued me at the counter, but when I got home with a sample and tried this, it turned into a skin scent in moments. The lovely powderiness at first reminded me of Chanel's divine Misia, but it didn't live up to that fragrance in the end. Re-smelling my arm now, the powder is very subdued, the Iris is almost gone, there's only a hint of woodiness. Glad I didn't buy. Reaching for something else to put on, let's see...okay Neil Morris's Afire. I'm getting addicted to it.

Standard iris violet combo with a woody note that detracts rather than adds. Better alternatives at lower prices exist.

A fine green-powdery iris. Feels a bit pale compared to the rest of the Chanel Exclusifs, but still good vs other iris-centered scents

A peppery green earthy rooty iris in the beginning; a sandalwoody musky iris at the end. Yet airy. Quite unique in the iris spectrum!
