A Polge Composition Outside Tiffany for Men I Can Actually Stand, But Better Options Exist...
Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentree opens with a very nice orange note that even has just the tiniest bit of lemon mixed in to support the orange. A somewhat prominent rose and wood-like petit grain note emerges as the orange all but subsides, before nutmeg spice joins in to lend further support. Vanilla appears to be the key base note, lending a bit of powder and sweetness to the scent, but never veering to the "too powdery or sweet" camp. The powder is never distracting, hanging far in the background and allowing the rest of the notes to shine. Projection and longevity are both average.
Some call Pour Monsieur Concentree a similar scent to Tiffany for Men (also created by Polge), but apart from some passing similarities I really don't get much of the resemblance. I *do* see a close tie-in to Polge's later creation for Chanel, Allure Homme. Now before anyone goes into panic mode thinking if that is the case, then Pour Monsieur Concentree is an obvious throwaway, think again... The two sister scents definitely share a lot of characteristics, but Pour Monsieur Concentree is a much better scent that the very forgettable Allure Homme in nearly every way. Pour Monsieur Concentree is much more refined and is not cloying like its overly potent younger sibling; I could definitely see someone wearing this to a formal event or outing (and maybe that is where the Tiffany comparisons come in). No, I don't think Pour Monsieur Concentree will set the world afire with its greatness, but it is one of Polge's better efforts from Chanel and I give it a strong good rating and 3 to 3.5 stars out of 5. That said, I personally would stick to the far superior Tiffany for Men over this if looking for a winner for a formal occasion.
