The sparkling rivers
Far up in the wild woods, Woodrow watched over the two rivers before they became one and spoke two more tongues. He had learned to read from the genealogy of the waters, and so he listened to their silent novellas.
One was livelier, fresher, and smaller, gurgling glisteningly of grapefruit and ginger, glowing green eucalyptically and cool as camphor, whispering frostily of misty scents, the menthol of montane black spruces. And then there were the trolls, dribbling luminous green drops from an eyedropper into the waves. Woodrow wondered.
The greater river was of luminous balsam, the chirping soul of the pinyon pines, consecrated smoke and ethereal glow wafted above from sacred woods and velvety sweet incense resins, like a path back through the trees' veins to the treetops to Woodrow's ancestors. They sat on his shoulders, among the forest spirits and elves, and stared with him into the vague depths where the rivers met.
There glimmered beneath the chirping soul the balsamic dark heart of the fir, there hummed the spirit of the medicine man benzoin, from the banks there dipped forest soil, it was almost as it should be. Except for the trolls. Woodrow wondered, just like the ancestors, the spirits and elves, there was really no need for that now.

Shawn Maher of Saint Louis-based Chatillon Lux handcrafts his fragrances and was named Best Independent Perfumer by ÇaFleureBon in 2020, not unjustly, I think.
With "Confluence" he has succeeded in creating a fragrance that virtuously uses tangy-fresh-ethereal elements of eucalyptus, ginger, grapefruit and black spruce as well as gently smoky-medicinal-resinous aromas of palo santo, elemi and benzoin to underscore the balsamic beauty of pinyon pine (Swiss stone pine), only to transition it later into dark-ethereal fir balsam (slightly sweet). Here, the faintly smouldering darkness is further underscored by earthy labdanum. Even the use of the three synthetics from the fresh-green-spicy range I don't find distracting, if they were used to bring out the glow, Maher has done it very well. The sparkling rivers glow moderately to quietly, but are ever present for over eight hours.
